Great collectives are built by bringing different strengths to the table.

For @joekinvi, it started with a belief in community and a passion for bringing people together. For Jermaine Craig, his background in product design helped him build something that looked credible, felt trustworthy, and made people want to be part of it.

Together, their experiences helped shape global collectives like HoaQ, @diasporahouseco and @joinkwanda

Your own experience could be the starting point for something bigger than you imagine.

How do you get your first 100 members for a collective in just two weeks?

In this video, Jermaine Craig, founder of @joinkwanda , shared how they did it.

Now, your story might look different, but one thing is certain: consistently sharing your story and reaching out to people who share your values and vision is a great way to grow your collective and attract members.

“I always found myself being the guy saying, hey, why are we complaining? There’s like 10 of us here. Let’s just sort this out.”

For Jermaine, starting @joinkwanda grew out of something he was already naturally inclined to do: bring people together to solve problems.

Building a collective sometimes starts with a simple question: Why don’t we just come together and do something about it?

Looking to start your own collective?

Borderless provides the infrastructure to help you bring people together to organise and move capital across borders.

What happens when the diaspora comes together to fund locally-led change?

@joinkwanda started with that question in 2020.

Today, it brings together 1,800+ diaspora members who have collectively deployed over £200K across 21 countries in Africa and the Caribbean.

Want to build something similar with your own collective?

Join Jermaine Craig, founder of @joinkwanda , and @joekinvi for a conversation on building your own collective from scratch, for impact or for profit.

LITERACY FOR ALL: AGOMEDA D/A SCHOOL NOW STEWARDS ITS SECOND LIBRARY CORNER.

At Agomeda D/A School, the second Library Corner is co-created and fully owned by the community. Learners, teachers, and parents led the process, from design to installation.

This Corner will provide daily, equitable access to age-appropriate reading materials, foster a culture of curiosity, peer learning, and learner leadership, and establishe a sustainable model where literacy is maintained by the community, for the community.

Thank you to our partners @joinkwanda and to the Agomeda community for leading this work.

Corner #3 is officially DONE at Asebi M/A Basic. 📚

No library before. Now 300+ storybooks, and a corner they can call their own. We are confident this project will deliver complementary value in raising the literacy levels of the students and the community.

The students didn’t leave the corner after we set it up. That’s how we knew it worked.

Where should the next library corner go? Drop your school/community in the comments 👇

Follow along as we bring libraries to where there are none.

Want to help us build the next one? Comment LIBRARY and I’ll DM you how.

A special thank you to @joinkwanda for supporting this project.
