A couple weeks back my co-founder @darrendunc and I had the absolute honor of speaking about our work with @betweenthelines at @fordfoundation , one of the largest and most influential private philanthropic organizations in the World, dedicated to reducing inequality and advancing social justice. The room was masterfully curated by @jon__jackson and was filled with changemakers shifting society by way of media, tech, fashion, entertainment and more. We were brought together to display the immense power and importance of genuine storytelling as it relates to the essential transfer of knowledge, the strengthening of community and the future of the human race. Everyone was so inspiring, supportive and open to the possibility of joining forces in our missions to make greater impact. Although we didn’t know many people personally going in, there was never a moment we felt like strangers. There was a calm and comfort I felt that could only be described as the feeling one feels around family.Ā

I often have trouble accepting that I belong in rooms such as these, but I’m working on it. Not only were my partner and I there, but so were many of the incredible incarcerated individuals that we’ve met and worked with over the years since we started. We prepared a compilation of their testimonies and allowed them to speak to the room, controlling their own narrative rather than us telling it. This is by far what I’m most proud of. As long as we’re able, we’re going to see to it that as many stories transcend those prison walls as possible. In doing this we hope that more people will realize that the so-called ā€œworst of usā€ are just a reflection of society’s failures and that with understanding, empathy and love, most everyone is redeemable.Ā

Thank you to the brilliant @jon__jackson , @fordfoundation , all of the other amazing presenters and everyone in attendance! We can’t wait to build with you all! Love! ā¤ļø

Culture doesn’t just reflect where we come from. It influences where we’re going. ✨

My first client came all the way from South Africa to bless Brooklyn Content House before we even officially launched… they trusted us. šŸ™šŸ¾

CRTVE came to Brooklyn and rented Lobby Studio BK to shoot on my stoop in Bed-Stuy. From that first conversation to now, I’m blessed to say they became the first official client to shoot at Brooklyn Content House.

There’s something special about having people believe in the vision before the doors are even officially open.
Big thank you to Jonathan for trusting me, Lobby Studio BK, and the vision of Brooklyn Content House. And thank you to everyone who participated in the focus group and shoot and helped us christen the space.

Blessed to have had: Moozlie (@moozlie )Jonathan Jackson (@jon__jackson )Rouge (@rouge_rapper ) & @crtve_development

This is exactly what I envisioned for BCH — a place where creativity, culture, conversation, and collaboration come together.

We haven’t even launched yet… and already, the House is working. šŸ šŸŽ„ #BrooklynContentHouse #Reels #ContentHouse

I was in a room last night that asked everyone present (founders of your favorite platforms, viral creators, media executives, authors, etc.) to NOT talk about what we do for work.

These rooms are rare in a world that couples value with title. These rooms are rare in industries that would rather know the name of who you know than your own.

But @jon__jackson created it.

At the Ford Foundation, its global fellow gathered 50 people to think and discuss and share about ā€œWe Are All Downstream of Stories.ā€

Theory was tapped to provide a few academics to contribute to the room. Shout out to @fatou.imani & @_rawilcox , whose works exploring the archival preservation of story and the reliance of theology on racism (respectively) are necessarily brilliant.

Not only did we hear reflections about storytelling as a liberator, we were reminded that ā€œit is deeply childish to restrain your curiosity in exchange for trying to be coolā€ by Jonathan.

At the end of the night, we got to break the rules. In that vein, if you made it to the end of this post, I’ll break the rule again.

I’m Kaylin Young and I make creative (people/products/projects) smarter.

Happy birthday to us, Twin.

Exactly 7 years ago, we traveled to Houston a few days early ahead of ā€œthe boys trip that made it out of the group chat.ā€ We wanted to create something special together to celebrate our 30th birthday. We had a concept. We found a local photographer. We knew we wanted to shoot both digital and analog. We wanted to tell the story of two big personalities—distinct, yet cut from the same cloth.

In return we received one of the greatest gifts anyone could ever ask for: the gift of being seen. We got to see pieces of ourselves pieces, where we come from, and even pieces of our father. I personally got to see my brother for the first time in a long time— the hidden parts. Parts of joy and pain.

We named this body of work ā€œThe Harris Projectā€ and it became the beginnings of a love letter to ourselves, our lives and our family. I’m excited to share (hopefully very soon) the fullness of that moment. It was truly special.

Fast forward to today — I’m grateful for what the last few years have given us: a renewed sense of time and space to strengthen our connection and rebuild our collective imagination for what our brotherhood can be.

When I left for college all those those year ago and lived almost two decades at distance from you, I spent a whole lot of time chasing brotherhood, trying to reconnect the bond and trust that came so easy from being your twin.

And no matter how far apart we were, we always seem to move in unison. When I’m experiencing my highs, your highs are not too far behind. When I’m at my lowest, you somehow know every time. It’s not quite the twin telepathy, but I’m starting to believe God made us this sensitive on purpose.

My prayer for 37 is this: May we continue learn to love each other better, and may we support each other in ways that we actually need it—never sugarcoating or covering up our bullshit. May we love each harder than ever. Encourage each other. Make space for grace and to help one another heal.

With her gift to me today, @gymhooky gave me this affirmation that I want us to hold: 37 will be a year of alignment, expansion and answered prayers.

So let’s not get in the way of what God has for us.
