Time after time, year after year, Susie continues to innovate and deliver.

I still remember the first class I took with her. my eyes opened. Oh my God, this is what yoga is about. It was fun, intelligently sequenced, accessible, and challenging all at once.

All these years later, it still feels magical to step into her class—to learn and to practice.

Here she is walking us through Double Compass Pose (Dwi Parivrtta Surya Yantrasana), beautifully challenging your balance.

Give it a try and let us know how you did.

Catch her class at @secondsideyoga and try any classes at second side as all classes are a cut above.

Some postures are considered “advanced,” like moving from Locust Pose (Salabhasana) into a deep backbend inversion. This is known as Full Locust Scorpion Pose (Ganda Bherundasana) — often called chin stand.

The name can be misleading. Ideally, there should be very little weight on the chin. Many try to press down the chin to the floor which isn’t ideal — it usually comes from not being taught properly and from lacking the strength and flexibility needed for safe entry. The real lift comes from broadening the collarbones and pressing firmly through the arms and palms to support the body.

This shape is also seen as a variation of Scorpion Pose (Vṛścikāsana). 🦂

To go deeper, preparation is essential. The body needs both strength to support itself and flexibility to lengthen and bend. Yoga teaches patience — one step at a time builds the confidence to explore further.

✨ Come practice with us — where good teachers guide you patiently toward your own yoga adventures.

Richelle, practicing here, teaches a solid all-levels class Saturdays at 5 pm.

Although it may feel awkward at first, Om has powerful benefits—it helps calm the nerves and fosters a sense of connection. Just a few rounds can noticeably slow your heart rate and awaken a deep feeling of wholeness in the body.
Let me know if you’d like a tutorial on how to cue Om—even for someone who’s never done it before. It can be taught with ease.

Sharing a tip Tim Miller gave me many years ago in Marichyasana D when I was suffering from a knee injury during ashtanga training with him. Whenever I do lotus or half lotus I think of him.

Lineage, tradition—whatever you call it—the knowledge we carry today is often passed down from the teachers before us, and shaped by our own self-inquiry.

My teaching and practice reflect both. The more I study and embody the practice, the more I appreciate those who came before me.

Something I always remind teacher training grads and fellow teachers: crediting where your knowledge comes from doesn’t diminish you—it elevates you. While I’ve learnt a lot from some well known teachers, what got me really seriously going were unsung hero teachers guided me locally, especially my first teachers @susiecaicedo @sabratriyogi and @deanna.haun

When I chat with her It’s beautiful to see someone like @stephanie_young_yoga who’s been teaching for decades, still honoring her teachers. leading by example that is. A little humility goes a long way.

A strong foundation builds a smarter, more powerful practice. The secret? It’s all in the Warrior postures. Master them, and watch your practice leap forward

This mini tutorial is designed for both teachers and students alike. Simple, effective cues help your body self-adjust during practice. Slow it down when trying it for the first time—then transition to one breath, one movement vinyasa to raise your heart rate and energize your flow.

.

See you in class!

i apologize for my mumbles first😅.

Ever received an adjustment that felt ambiguous or even hurt by it?
I have—more than once. I was too polite and went along with it. That experience really shaped how I approach adjustments now.
When I teach whether a class or workshop, I’m hyper-aware, watching like a hawk. Not because I know it all, but because I’ve been on the receiving end of adjustments that didn’t feel right or safe. And too much love to see then hurt.

My philosophy isn’t about pushing someone to a “final destination.” It’s about helping them feel their body more clearly—what’s available today, not someday. Ideally, they won’t need my help later.

Yoga, depending on what style you practice, is physically rigorous and injuries can happen even without any adjustments. What we want is safely guiding students into their practice. Injuries can happen when adjustments are unclear, rushed, or not grounded in an understanding of the student’s body. And then we hear people say “yoga hurts.”

If you’re adjusting, it’s worth taking the time to learn and practice. Go to workshops. Try it on yourself. Practice on your trusted friends. Get feedback. Ask questions. The more you understand, the more helpful (and safe) you can be. And when you are not sure, don’t touch.

We’re planning a casual open forum soon to talk about stuff like this. DM me if you’re curious and want to be invited.

Yogis, sending love from the land of smile. Miss you guys 3,000!! 😘🥲😿😻😽

And if you get bored or feel like you’ve “mastered” bhuja dandasana, try to straighten both arms while doing your hips lower in order to make your floating leg parallel to the ground. It is a pivoting action jalen from the foot on the opposite elbow.

And let me know how you did. Refinement in a posture is being able to pay attention to details.

A little assist goes a long way. Try the air walk from a crow pose by tapping each toes to your wrists one at a time to develop strength and test hamstring flexibility. The super simple principles in any arm balanced including handstand are keep leaning forward to start and a super engaging core.
