POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We’ve got a couple of blondies in the house now! Yesterday, our favorite loctician was a total SAINT and put up with us for six hours helping these two achieve their dream hair - and still getting Leo home in time to watch the entire Portugal game. BLESS HIM. 🙏🏼

Both Cam and Leo look amazing! I love love love my boys’ locs and it’s so fun watching how they choose to express their personalities with their hair, both in styling and color. Jesse said he wants to bleach his next year once they get a little longer, so @jonate148 - get ready! 😂

Leo recently posted what I think is his most important video over on his YouTube channel. I will share the link for it in my bio, and I hope you’ll watch. In the video, he speaks with transparency about the challenges of his first semester in Spain, which was not, in all honesty, what any of us had hoped. He explains it from his perspective better than I could here but suffice it to say, around mid-October, Phillip and I were able to recognize that Leo was in the midst of a very deep depression. Exhaustion, body pain, injury, lack of playing time, lots of newness and maybe a little homesickness took a toll on our boy and it was one of the most helpless feelings I’ve ever felt as a mom. Leo did an amazing job of getting into the Word, listening to sermons and asking for help. We immediately began intentionally connecting with him more, reaching out to friends and mentors to pray and I counted down the days until we could get him home and help him reset.

The entire time he was gone, I was working on his bedroom re-do. I considered every detail based on the vibe he said he wanted and I began to pray for him as I would paint.
I’m pretty sure the beautiful olive green color he chose was at least slightly diluted by my tears. I was so happy to get him home and settled into his new space. And that was great for a couple days, until the hard conversations started.

I wish I could say I was the best version of myself during those conversations, but that would not be true. I’m opinionated. I can catastrophize with the best of them. I was exhausted and worried. I’m passionate and highly invested in my boy and seeing him live out the huge mission in his heart that he has sacrificed so much for. And sometimes all of that, plus my own life experience, makes me a great talker and not the best listener.

That said, Leo loved his room. (I’m sharing a couple photos and his reaction video here.) We absolutely loved every second of having him home. Did I want to put him back on that plane in January for five more months in Spain? I did not. But do I trust God that it was the right thing for Leo’s development? Yes. Well, at least I’m trying to.
