MOODBOARD vol.1: Offbeat forms, strange textures and strong colours. I always build my #moodboards around sensory and emotional cues and throw logic out the window 😅🦚🪸 curious to know what you feel when you look at these images??

Loosely inspired by a translation I saw that said “bite the moon”….which on its own is enough of a poem. This as the burst of summer, in all of its ripeness and splendor, of stardust, of light

@sensitiveflora and I first met when he joined one of my shisa workshops at @pot_studio_la. He surprised me with a breathtaking arrangement to congratulate me on a show opening that very same day, mind you we had never met before. I was stunned by the generosity, but it made a bit more sense when I learned he had spent part of his childhood in Hawai‘i—“Hawai‘i kine things,” as they say. What Randy didn’t know was that I had been curating a group show pairing florists and ceramicists, and it felt as if the universe just wanted us to work together.

When I later saw the lei he created for my piece, I couldn’t help but get emotional. The way the arrangement and vessel came together felt like home ♥️. Mahalo nui loa, Randy, for the gift of collaboration. I could not be happier with the end result.

Jar for a lion’s dance with lei lãi for protection, lei hinahina, palm dates, and anthurium clarinervium — “a nod to our one hānau.”

Please be sure to stop by and check out the show @kitagallery.la while the arrangements are still fresh!!

by appointment or Sat & Sun 12 - 5pm

A beautiful few days in Durham. Incredibly honored to give the keynote for the inaugural HEAT conference, which brought together so much amazing new scholarship by medical and environmental anthropologists. Met a lot of folks whose work I can’t wait to follow as it unfolds in the years to come. And the scones were delicious too! 💛

Inside this 2,400-square-foot home she shares with her family, DeRosa’s design demonstrates her love of soft hues, classic details and dreamy vibes. “During this process, I came to the realization that I am frequently drawn to objects and environments that have surrealist undertones and inferred organic and botanical influences, like the tulip inspired Flight sculpture by Jonathan Yamakami on the fireplace mantel.” she notes. “We really embraced the living room as a room in which everyone could comfortably relax and socialize,” recalls DeRosa.

The high, barrel ceiling in the living room reflects an abundance of natural light and the fireplace, clad in the original Batchelder tile that defined the era in which the home was built, were two architectural elements that were embraced and celebrated. Pulling color inspiration from the tile, a terracotta linen covered sectional sofa became the centerpiece of the living room.
