Solar Black is an award-winning indie author known for spicy science fiction and alien romance featuring mature, full-figured Black women. Originally from Gary, Indiana, Solar began her career in the newspaper industry before moving to South Florida and spending more than 25 years in education.

Her writing grew from a desire to see Black women represented in the speculative worlds she enjoyed. That idea became the SPACE ORCS series and other stories blending romance, humor, culture, and a little spice with aliens and faraway worlds.

After years in education, Solar has found a new passion in lifting up undiscovered and emerging voices in the genres she loves. She is the founder of Black Majik Orlando, created to bring greater visibility to Black authors and creators in speculative fiction.

It's been a wild ride, after nine years of finding synthwave, sharing, discovering, playing, and creating my own image. It's been a journey: interviewing incredible artists in the synthwave community, promoting artists, and organizing events. I've DJ'd many times around the UK, attended gigs, and met and made awesome friends. I've created 12 music videos and had a podcast. I orchestrated a synth playlist for four years. When I typed my name "synthwave83" into Google just to see what it said, reading the results was pure joy! Remembering how much I've achieved. I want to thank you all for the support. It's been so fun. I'm officially putting my playlist, "Artist Weekly," and all things synth to bed now. 😎 It's time to hang up my synth coat. I'm going to be continuing to enjoy good music, going to gigs, and collecting vinyl and CDs. And who knows maybe a DJ set here and there.🎶

As a mid-millennial the 2002 Spiderman era will always have a special place in my heart (if you can’t tell by my Mary Jane cosplay) but I am always completely blown away by Tom’s performance and those films 🙌 Let’s goooo!

Criscilla Crossland Anderson. My best friend.
Long before the world knew your name, you rooted yourself into my life — and you never loosened your grip. We were just girls in the early 2000s with dreams too big for the rooms we stood in.

People see the public story — the bravery, the platform, the perfectly curated moments.
But I wish they knew the girl behind it: the one who held my secrets, who laughed with me until we couldn’t breathe, who once threw her suitcase in the street, who danced so hard a wig went flying, who snapped her sidekick shut and said, “hit me back.”

I’ve watched you become so many versions of yourself — but none more breathtaking than the one who became a mother. You softened, expanded, glowed from a place deeper than talent, deeper than stage lights. Motherhood was your masterpiece.

And cancer… cancer was never your story.
Not the eight years of fighting.
Not the surgeries, the chemo, the exhaustion that tried to break you.
Your story was who you remained despite all of it — impossibly kind, fiercely loyal, able to find light where there shouldn’t have been any. That character was there long before your diagnosis.

When I look at these photos, I see more than memories. I see two and a half decades of us — love, laughter, pain, hope, survival. The quiet moments no one else knew about. My home becoming yours — your own room, your own fluffy cat. The alternative therapies, the Malibu place, the whispered fears. And the joy — weddings, babies, birthdays, family trips, and dance.

Most people only ever saw the highlight reel.
I lived an entire lifetime of truth with you. You’re hilarious, stubborn, endlessly fun, and impossible not to love.

A world without you feels impossible, but with a terminal diagnosis I know God will have to guide me through whatever comes.

Love like ours doesn’t disappear. It shifts.
And mine for you, Criscilla, will live in every version of me that walks this earth. I love you friend.
