4th at 70.3 Augusta this past weekend!

Just 45s off the podium and I’m pretty thrilled to come away with another run PR just 2 weeks after Nice (1:22:43). Helps when you know speedy runner @samsskold is hunting you down, held her off as long as I could 😅
Run fitness is at a new level this year and I’m stoked about that.
Finally showed some better bike power that just hasn’t quite been the same since the crash but ready to really put that behind me for good and keep improving my bike.

Overall really happy with the day. Plus a great weekend getting to see some old training buds from KY and hang with lots of great friends and teammates.
Life is pretty good!

(Overdue) Spring/Summer Race Recaps:

St Anthony’s Olympic Triathlon (St Petersburg, FL) 2:06:35, 12/991

Fun rust buster down in Florida to start the season in late April with @_ethanong_ . Learned I still wasn’t a good swimmer and bike legs are very fleeting.

Music City Olympic Triathlon (Nashville, TN) 🥇
1:53:08, 1st Place Overall

Much better Olympic, finally dipping under 1 hour on the bike for 40k and holding 5:30s nicely on the run to bring home the victory with a ton of @working.triathlete friends. And unexpectedly ran into @g_dubs47 , arguably the most badass person ever, prior to my first USADA drug test!

IM Maine 70.3 (Augusta, Maine)
4:09, 7th Place Overall (5th AG)

Huge result to end the summer. Data for the nerds:
- Swim, 21:56 (38th). Downriver so time is obsolete but a huge breakthrough place wise. Maybe am finally learning how to swim?
- Bike: 2:22 (15th). Still a PR bike leg on a brutal course but not what I wanted - cost me being close to the podium.
- Run: 1:18:52 (7th). Not a bad IM 70.3 run but not the run I wanted and where I thought I was fitness wise. Was fighting bad cramps the whole time and just hanging on.

One of those races where you’re still happy with it - 4:09 is a huge PR and 7th OA is a great jump up - but knew I had more in the tank and fell short a little.

Overall, couldn’t have asked for another first half of the year continuing to learn, get faster (sometimes), and hanging out with amazing people the whole way.
Excited to transition back to short course for some championship racing in the fall at the Armed Forces Triathlon Championship representing the Army, the Army Ten Miler representing Fort Benning, and one last send at Ironman 70.3 Haines City (FL) for another shot at sub-4:00 and an overall podium prior to 2027 (a full IM debut maybe?). You know where to find me until then (struggling to swim at the Y or taking “biking” lunches)!

My first overall win 🥇 🤘 Recap:

First race of the year, and my first Olympic distance since I stumbled into this sport a couple years ago.

I’ll be honest…this year hasn’t been built around racing. It’s been built around Missy, my girls, work, and training has had to fit into the corners of a really fun, eventful, and full 2026. Not many perfect weeks. Just showing up as consistently as I possibly could.

Race day was proof that it adds up. No doubt about it 🙌

The swim was downriver out, upriver back. I stayed smooth going out, and when I made the turn and felt the current much more than I thought I would. Stayed very chill and refused to force it or over kick. First out of the water. On the 🚀 bike, my coach and I had a plan: Hold 290-295 watts, nothing more. I held it and felt strong the whole ride which was a massive confidence boost for me. Then I settled in at 6:15-6:30 pace on the run and lived there and felt good in the heat with the help of a lot of ice 🥶

Nothing flashy. Just a plan, executed my best all the way through…pacing, nutrition, transitions, all of it.

That’s what made this one special. Consistency with a plan absolutely paid off. Not to mention having the best support crew on the course.

Beyond grateful for Missy, my girls, Momma Sal and my other Johnston family, my @team_octagonelite teammates, coach @bsaunders2 , @magicsportsusa and the triathlon community. Really enjoy the peaks and valleys of this sport and journey.

Next up: Ironman 70.3 World Championships 🫡
