music and radio things. tend to post most music stuff on my Stops page. Playlists of new music I like and substack also linked here:

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Lately I’ve seen some grumbling about social posts like these*, which just share a bunch of album covers in a row, saying that they’re not really any use to anyone without any context or deep, considered reflections. And I get it. I value focused analysis as much as anyone. But ultimatelyI disagree - there’s room for both.

Yeah I wish I had the time (and talent) to elaborate on what I like about each of these records but ultimately I think there’s value in earnestly sharing ANY new music you love, however you can, rather than leaving it to algorithms or whatever.

Hate to be a bit virtuous and worthy about it but - plainly - there is more music released daily than ever before, BUT at the same time, madly, people are increasingly listening to more old music (over new music) than ever before. A grim dichotomy!

And anyway, I like seeing my feed full of stuff like this.

*mostly by “music writers” on substack tbh

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to exhibit @the_bluecoat in Liverpool. My first solo show in an arts institution also operated as a retrospective which is probably exactly how my career was meant to go. I’m extremely proud of what this show was, and as I look back at the photos realise how deeply personal it actually was. My friend @tong_of_dorset even came down from NY to drive the old drum kit we used to rehearse in his living room as teenagers(which ended up on the Bloc Party album Silent Alarm). There are in jokes here that even I’m not privy to. It covered over twenty years of creative endeavour and how each individual failure could be a path to a bigger (failure) thing … apparently 17,000 people passed through during its run and it’s so exciting to meet people who say they had been. Thanks to @the_bluecoat for having me
