Before it was skincare, it was survival. Before it was luxury, it was legacy. For thousands of years, acorns sustained California's Native peoples — not just as food, but as medicine, ceremony, and beauty. Families gathered beneath the oaks each autumn, taking only what the land offered and giving thanks in return. The oil pressed from those acorns — kiwilla, as it's known in Luiseño — became a daily ritual: a moisturizer against the wind, a balm for healing skin, an anointing in sacred ceremonies. That knowledge didn't disappear. It was carried forward, generation to generation, by hands that never stopped honoring the oak.
