‘Alternates Teaser’, the prototype of the upcoming VR movie 'Alternates (Bergantian)' by Jonathan Hagard presented at PE #1 - Contemporary Artisanal Studio Apartment in Bali featured in Contemporary Art Library! Thank you @c.a.library Link in bio. “The reference is to the urban, environmental, political and cultural transformations that the Indonesian island of Java has undergone from 1980 to the present day, and which Hagard had developed in his previous VR film, Replacement, exhibited in “Domesticity IX” at Kayu in 2022. During this period, many signs of the island’s traditions and heritage disappeared to make room for the so-called “Muslim megacities.” The video shows a hypothetical Bali if, a century earlier, it had taken the same path of its neighboring island of Java, in a scenario in which the cultural foundations have partially disappeared due to uncontrolled economic and urban development.” [Excerpt from the press release ‘Alternates Teaser’] @jonobajaj Image: Exhibition View, 2023, PE #1 - Contemporary Artisanal Studio Apartment in Bali. one week ago I was at @minikinofilmweek for #MFW9. It’s so hard condensing 1 week of memories into 10 photos, strangers turned into core memories with just a simple meal together. During this week we all watched films, laughed, cried, questioned & contemplated on life together. We share common thoughts and journeys in filmmaking. We roamed around town looking for the best food spots in between screenings. I was touched by the kindest hearts, they brought me back to my core. And It inspired me. Always with gratitude because it meant alot, because it felt like a new found family that we know we are going to cross paths again well into the future. Minikino and it’s people has my heart. And thanks to Amir for giving me the best gift to be at Minikino. Makasih to all. ‘We are only in synchronise in this brief moment, this time, this space.’ - @hellokellyland

The main locations in which the film is set, as well as some characters, are the same as in PE#1; the apartment becomes the exhibition space of this presentation in which the public and guests who will stay in the house will be able to experience the VR film in situ, walking around the apartment, interacting with the space, experiencing as it was in the past and as it could be in different or future eras. MFW 9 Dumping part 2 | It is always a pleasure to meet new people and old friends, or those who I usually see with zoom or phone, or the names in the credit title of films I admire. And having more @mondiblanc kids to be in Minikino brings such joy, as if there is a connection between sacrifice and result (my shrink said there is none, and I think that's the truth). Life is a journey of suffering between happiness. The more the suffering, the more joyful the happiness and pleasure. Post 1-2: MondiBlanc @auratiummm and @mitherafilm So glad to have your films here this year, and I hope we can see each other again next year. Stay healty and happy guys. Post 3: Kornet Pronas (Koordinator Networking Programmer Nasional). Such a constructive meeting to improve civilization. Post 4: if you aint got an award, you can have photos with it on the office. @jonobajaj has bring a lot of enlightenment to my podcast, such a humble ajd critical filmmaker! Post 5: last year i was poor, this year I was still poor but at least I got a 100 dollar bill from tante Clarissa. Special thanks @clarissajaye for that 100 dollar bill of pocket (yes pocket, not money. To remind me to fill it with money next time I go to minikino). Post 6: the best poster that wasnt on the wall, but everywhere now! @mitherafilm beautiful poster made by @jessie.t.r , I am sending good vibes to friends who cannot attend MFW 9. Post 7-8-9 To @annabellaschnabel I hope a long lasting health and happiness, to @wahyudha17 I congratulate for your graduation and to @si.arfan ..how are you my dude? Hahaha. Anyway, see you all on the third dump from my other camera. Thank you @minikinofilmweek

SAVE THE DATE! ALTERNATES TEASER September 29 - October 2, 2023 PE#1 - Contemporary Artisanal Studio Apartment JI. Nagasari No.2, (Jl. Penestanan), Ubud, Bali 80571 OPENING HOURS 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Kayu – Lucie Fontaine’s branch in Bali, Indonesia – in collaboration with Project Etere [PE] is pleased to present ‘Alternates Teaser’, the prototype of the upcoming VR movie ‘Alternates (Bergantian)’ by Jonathan Hagard at PE #1 - Contemporary Artisanal Studio Apartment in Bali. This four-day presentation - 29, 30 September and 1, 2 October - is part of the site-specific residency program titled ‘Domesticity – Residency Program’ which reflects on the concept of domesticity and its relationship – or otherwise – between contemporary art and domestic spaces. In particular, this special presentation aims to examine the relationship between what is domestic and what is country; in doing so, the artist sees a country – Bali in this case – as a collective space and dynamic field that generates continuous social and collettive change. @jonobajaj Image: Jonathan Hagard, excerpt from ‘Alternates’, 2023, VR video with sound.
