POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today marks one year since we started filming Jenna Gets An Abortion. So much has changed.

@jonothonmitchell and I talk all the time about why we wrote this film. We were drowning in the shadow cast by Kemp’s signing of the unconstitutional Heartbeat Bill. We wanted to fight back in our own way, and we did. This film is technically dystopia, a version of the world where all these draconian abortion restrictions have gone into effect. It is terrifying in its subtlety: it’s hard to know which restrictions are real and which are a part of our fiction.

The day after we finished filming, a judge blocked that Heartbeat Bill from going into effect. Since then, it has been rightfully overturned in federal court. It was a victory that gave me hope that soon, as I have always wished, @jennagetsamovie would be irrelevant. A relic of dark times gone by.

As I learn more about the nominee to replace Justice Ginsburg, I now worry that our film was not urgent enough.

I fight feelings of fear every day because I know that fear is the opposite of love. I know that the forces of hate, evil, and chaos are based in and fueled by fear, and I want to refuse that bait and reject that mindset entirely. But I am, truly, terrified of what we are poised to lose: our rights as womxn, our livable planet, our progress towards true liberty and justice for all, our democracy itself...so much. Too much. It’s all at stake.

So we fight on. I will be voting for @joebiden and @kamalaharris. I will be voting for @raphaelwarnock and @jonossoff. I will be making calls, making donations (however small), and making changes (however large) to ensure I am the kind of citizen a nation on the brink needs me to be. Always listening, constantly engaged, ever vigilant. I will fall short, but I will not give up. Because for four days in 2019 I lived inside the mind of a woman who found herself in a backwards nation that took her choice and her POWER from her. Even in performance, that pain was overwhelming. We will NOT let that pain consume us. We WILL fight for choice, for love, for progress. Because, like Jenna, we are brave enough to hope. Even at our most afraid.

Choose hope. Fight hard. Vote.

Please.

In the shadow of a great loss, celebration can feel impossible. But in the shadow of a great loss, it can also feel more urgent than ever to celebrate the ones we love and cherish and can’t imagine losing ourselves.

So today, on his birthday, I will still celebrate Jonothon Mitchell. It is more urgent than ever.

Last night, Jono shared this RBG quote: “I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has.”

RBG fought for the opportunity to repair her society through law. Others heal bodies through medicine or spirits through good food. Some are listeners and analyzers, others are organizers and activists.

Jono repairs his society by telling stories. Stories that heal us through laughter and hope but that challenge us, too. Stories that show human beings in all their joy and sorrow, worthy of empathy, love, and a standing ovation when their dreams come true. I am honored to do this work by his side because the best of HIS ability is the best the world has ever seen. And he WILL make us all better. For some of us, he already has.

Thank you, Jonothon, for your fighting spirit. You are a blaze in the night: a constant light to see by...and a weapon when needed. Thank you for being brave enough to stand up for what’s right here, in Atlanta, and thank you for being brave enough to share your immense talents on the biggest stages imaginable. Wherever you and I go, friend, it will be because YOU had the vision. Whatever little repairs we make to society, it will be because YOU had the courage to know we could make a difference.

I love you. Happy birthday. May this, in spite of everything, still be the best year yet for telling stories, doing good, and fighting hard for the more just world we all deserve.

What do you do when you feel like you've tried everything? When you've dieted over and over but never found something that would stick? If you're Jonothon Mitchell, you hit a point where you've had enough, sign up for Stronger U, and change every aspect of your food and dieting life.

Jonothon had dieted before. He knew how to lose weight, but losing weight and keeping it off? That was a different story. But since starting with Stronger U and Coach Jeb, Jonothon has re-written his story. He understands how to cook and plan his food for the day so he can enjoy the foods he wants. He understands how those foods can fit into a day. And along the way he's found a system of eating that's allowed him to drop close to 50 pounds and 10 inches off his waist.

I know Jono already posted this. I don’t care. @lolascottart is a creative genius and deserves to be elevated and celebrated at every moment.

@jonothonmitchell and I combined, as he said perfectly, are the John Hughes of feminism and gay stuff. I also want to add this:

I am going to revolutionize the way you think about fat womxn. I am going to revolutionize the way I, myself, think about fat womxn. I’m gonna make us all a little more free, in my own way and from my own corner of the world, and I can’t fucking wait.

This is just the beginning.

*This a spoof* there is no album. 😂 it’s a dope picture that Chase took. And Jono Made this look like a real album. Because why not. We have photoshop.

1 day I will make an album of some sort. But not in the future. (At least I don’t think 😂). Maybe I’ll make a Christmas album lol.

Music is a big part of my life though. I love it. It motivates me, inspires me, challenges me. Also is there anything better than dancing? (Maybe sex, ok) but for real music is what connects us with so many different cultures and ways of life other than our own. ❤️
