YAMAS & NIYAMAS | WEEK 6
SAUCHA - CLARITY & CLEANLINESS

Have you ever noticed how much better you feel after a little tidy-up, a walk in nature, or taking a moment to clear your head?

Saucha is the first of the Niyamas in yoga philosophy. It’s often translated as cleanliness or purity, but it’s also about creating clarity in our surroundings, our bodies and our minds.

And no, this doesn’t mean we need to have a perfectly organised home or a mind that never wanders! 😅

It’s about noticing what might be leaving us feeling cluttered, heavy or distracted, and gently making space for what helps us feel clear and grounded.

Sometimes that might mean rolling out the yoga mat and taking a few conscious breaths. It might be clearing the kitchen bench, stepping away from endless scrolling, or giving ourselves a little time without noise or demands.

On the mat, we can practise Saucha by bringing our attention back to the present moment. We notice the sensations in our bodies, the quality of our breath and the thoughts passing through our minds without needing to judge or fix everything.

A little reflection for the week:
- What in my life is creating unnecessary clutter, physically or mentally?

- What helps me feel clear, grounded and refreshed?

- Is there one small thing I could clear away to make more room for what matters?

Saucha reminds us that sometimes we don’t need to add more to our lives. We simply need to make a little space 🙂

6 WA retreats we’d book in a heartbeat 🤍

Some holidays are about seeing more. Others are about coming home feeling a little different.

From the towering karri forests of the South West to the ancient landscapes of Karijini and the remote shores of Dirk Hartog Island, Western Australia is home to some pretty extraordinary places to retreat.

And forget the idea that a wellness retreat means a week of yoga and green juice. Think wild landscapes, new experiences, good company and the luxury of time to yourself.

We’ve rounded up six retreats worth planning your next escape around, with dates stretching from October 2026 into 2027.

The only question is, which one will you choose?

Explore all six in our latest edit. Link in bio. 🔗

Practicing hands-on assists after an incredible mobility class led by @jordan.doropoulos . There is an art to offering support that feels grounding rather than forceful, and getting to work through this side stretch with @kendrawatsonyoga was pure magic.

Forever a student in this practice. Endlessly grateful to learn alongside, move with, and be inspired by such dedicated teachers.Thank you @voyage_yogastudio @jordan.doropoulos and @neilurry @soulsanctuarysafaris for holding space and sharing your wisdom so generously. 🤍

THE YAMAS & NIYAMAS
2. SATYA - TRUTHFULNESS

Continuing our journey through the Yamas and Niyamas, we come to the second Yama: Satya.

Satya is often translated as truthfulness, which may sound simple, just tell the truth. But Satya invites us to look a little deeper at what it means to live honestly and authentically, both with ourselves and with others.

It can be about noticing where we might:
- Say yes when we really mean no.
- Hide how we’re actually feeling.
- Compare ourselves to an ideal version of who we think we should be.
- Ignore what our body is telling us.
- Tell ourselves stories that no longer feel true.
- Not be truthful with ourselves, whether that be our fears or our dreams.

What we’re on the mat, Satya may look like honest dialogue with yourself about how your body feels today?

Maybe your practice feels strong and you want to challenge yourself or maybe you’re tired and need to slow down.

Satya reminds us that we don’t need to force ourselves into a version of the practice that isn’t true for where we are right now.

But there’s an important part of Satya: Truth doesn’t have to be harsh.

Yoga philosophy places Satya alongside Ahimsa for a reason. Being truthful doesn’t mean saying everything we think or using “honesty” as an excuse to hurt someone or ourselves. It’s about finding a way to be truthful without causing unnecessary harm.

A little reflection:
Where could you practise a little more honesty in your life?

Is there something you already know, but have been avoiding admitting to yourself?

Satya asks us to listen for what is true and then have the courage to live from it.
