My first @nabjofficial conference left me feeling energized, inspired, and grateful to have a career that allows me to tell stories that uplift our communities and uphold democracy.

Taking up space in rooms with so many influential Black media leaders filled me with such pride and encouragement to continue in the field of journalism.

This conference reminded me how important our voices are and how essential it is for Black journalists to tell the stories of our people 🤎

Each day offered something new & extraordinary, from participating in engaging panel discussions and attending the Black Women In Media Luncheon, to meeting the cast of FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga with an exclusive premiere of the upcoming spin off series.

Thank you NABJ for welcoming me with open arms, and for giving Black journalists a space to network, to put our minds together and share knowledge, and to give student journalists like myself opportunities to plan for our futures.

And a special thank you to @nyu_journalism for giving me the opportunity to represent myself and NYU in such an influential space.

I cannot wait for the next one!

My first @nabjofficial was a success.

What a blessing it was to celebrate the my alma mater, the school that changed my life @sgjcbears @msuabj @sgjc_msu for winning student chapter of the year and one of the most impactful people in my time at Morgan Dean Jones for being inducted to the Hall of Fame!

Learning from the best, rubbing elbows with those I look up to, meeting new, young and hungry journalists that I can now call my friends and catching up with the ones I call family.

My love for journalism grew fonder once again and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. This won’t be the last NABJ!

After two years of working with NABJ’s student projects, this year I decided to attend as a participant. Thankfully, it was in my home state, so I also got to see my loved ones.

It felt like less of a conference and more like a family reunion. I attended meaningful panels, reconnected with old colleagues and friends, and had the honor of being a recipient of the Jovita Moore Memorial scholarship for a second time.

It’s always an honor to be in the room surrounded by Black media professionals who also share the same goals as mine.

I’m looking forward to my next NABJ conference!

Day 1 of my first @nabjofficial Convention is in the books!

One day in and I’ve learned so much, I’m so excited to apply these new skills and knowledge to my work! I’ve also been able to thank those running the Student Projects who pushed me out of my comfort zone in 2022, I hated it then but I’m a better journalist and person because of it!

Super excited for the rest of the convention!

One of the most powerful parts of our preservation visit to Morgan State University was gathering 15 new oral history interviews from @weaa889 🎙️

We spoke with current students, station staff, and alumni whose voices shaped WEAA across generations.
Among them were Albert Lamont Germany, who read the station’s first news broadcast as a Sophomore in 1977 and remains a MSU sports commentator and mentor to Morgan students today and Ernestine Jones, host of Gospel Grace Evening Inspirations, who shared what a feeling it is to carry a voice that a community depends on. As our fellow Olivia Green reflected after interviewing Ms. Jones: “That conversation grounded me. It reminded me why preservation matters: because behind every recording is a life devoted to keeping people connected, informed, and cared for.” ✨

My dad is the biggest Marvin Gaye fan and loves Motown so this story was personal to me. I enjoyed reporting on Motown’s connections to D.C. and covering the Motown DC and Gen Z event at the Anacostia Arts Center dedicated to teaching younger generations about Motown history.
