Alexander McQueen FW 2007 ‘In Memory Of Elizabeth Howe, Salem, 1692’ Show Staging and Graphics. Arguably one of Alexander McQueen’s most memorable stagings, legendary production designer Joseph Bennett (@josephbennett.studio) brought this haunting vision to life. Bennett, a longtime collaborator with McQueen, helped to design the inverted pyramid film screen. Suspended above the pentagram runway, the pyramid displayed kaleidoscopic visions of the elements at their most powerful: three women with windswept hair, a hoard of swarming locusts, the sun darkening, a painted face exploding into flames, a model’s face fading into a skull (a concept that was famously revisited by the lenticular portrait of Lee McQueen for SS 2009 ‘Natural Dis-tinction, Un-natural Selection’ show invitations). Inspired by Lee’s own family connection to the witch trials at Salem, the show represents what I take to be the animating pulses at the core of Lee McQueen’s work: vulnerability as true faith in one’s own power, surrender as the condition of possibility for rebirth, attention as the highest form of love, and the beauty in what is, what has been, and what will be. I rewatched the film "Event Horizon" this morning. I've always really liked this film! Event Horizon is a disturbing, imaginative, and trippy sci-fi horror film with unsettling thrills, a light wit, likable characters, and some out there ideas. The superb script by Philip Eisner tells a gruesome story about camaraderie, science, reality, the unknown, and survival that goes to some bleak unexpected places. Sam Neill leads a terrific ensemble cast that includes Laurence Fishburne, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T. Jones, Jack Noseworthy, Jason Isaacs, and Sean Pertwee. The cinematography is impressive by Adrian Biddle, and it is accompanied by an awesome score by Michael Kamen. It's expertly edited by Martin Hunter, and it has some really cool costume design, set decoration, art direction, production design, and effects. Paul W.S. Anderson did a fantastic job directing this dark, twisted, and exciting thriller that I would highly recommend. #eventhorizon #scifi #horrormovies #thriller #movie
