Authenticity is the new currency // New York.
What an amazing place to be. So refreshing. So real.

As an athlete, often our worth, acceptance and belief of ourselves is through the eyes of others, how we are perceived and what we can achieve in sport.

This brings up of a very tough predicament - when we aren’t playing well, aren’t achieving the bids, aren’t playing 6 rotations, nor playing on a top team.

How do we then feel about ourselves? Can we find compassion and love for ourselves or do we resent ourselves and our current situation?

The hero’s journey is a magical ride, where we can either be at the top of our game, sitting in the mud after a failure or silently working in the unseen towards our goals - you can’t always be “winning” and that’s ok… it’s beautiful!

Perhaps, instead of focusing all of our energy on winning, we can pivot that towards being our most authentic self, finding acceptance with where we are and then focusing our energy and belief towards where we want to go.

There is such a beautiful energy in New York with people being their most authentic self, whether it how they dress, how they express themselves or just simply how they go about their day. It is very refreshing and inspiring.

It’s very natural to try and fit in, to be seen and to be validated - at the very minimum (we don’t want to let others down)

But when we are too concerned with how we are received and perceived, we pivot away from our most authentic self and take away the beauty of our “hero’s journey”
