2025 :) was… busy 🫠 &… cute 🥰
Spent more time than I ever have on the road. 80+ shows with four projects, 2 European tours, one Cross-Canada, two US tours, and one Route 66 All-American road trip. All in all about about 5 months away from home. Got to be a part of 4 album releases: my own Annette Street, Eliza Niemi’s Progress Bakery, Whitney K’s Bubble, and Understanding’s The Joy of Living.
We biked to Coney Island, swam at Venice Beach, saw the Redwoods and Grand Canyon and Caverns of Sonora, walked through Hackney Downs and Brick Lane, ate my first haggis, went Clubbing in Berlin, got drunk on local wine at the only anarchist bar in fascist Verona.
Now lest we forget life is shit. I slept shivering alone in the driver’s seat of my car, got sick over and over, missed my people and home, played some pretty rough shows amongst the great ones, thought about turning around, many things I can’t talk about publicly, lived a life that often felt devoid of context, suffered and witnessed suffering everywhere I went. Music is so devalued. Labour is so devalued. Human dignity is apparently conditional. I say all this to avoid projecting a curated illusion of worldly happiness.
Maybe it’s time to disappear for a while and do the things people don’t see. Most of life is in the shadows, thank God. Still searching for my peace. The endings and beginnings of album cycles are scary and exciting. Who knows what comes next. But I come back to my people, where the meaning lies.
