Next to Normal ⚡️💜

A truly life changing show, and a life changing summer at the @drphillipsctr

MY VERY FIRST PROFESSIONAL JOB!! I’m certain that 15 years into my career I’ll look back on this experience as one of the most formative.

This show resonates with audiences in quite a rare and unique way. Every single performance created a synergy with the audience, and I felt the impact of this material course through the entire theatre. We laughed together (mostly when I pulled out the Apple pipe), cried together, and were ultimately moved together. The love shown for this specific production was off the charts, and I’m grateful to everyone that came, or had kind things to say.

I give my OVERWHELMING gratitude to @ryanmichaelsimpson and the entire education team for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity!!

To @michaeldjablonski - thank you for directing us with so much care and love. The heart of this piece was palpable.
To @joshianm - you were exceptional to watch on stage, but even more exceptional to be mentored by off of it.
To my intern cohort - @eyyitsjax @connor_deroche @lyndifloyd @ariflorespr @emmacatedavis - thanks for being an incredible team to learn, create, and lead alongside all summer. All the inside jokes, LONG DAYS, board game nights, escape rooms, and impromptu jam sessions will be remembered forever.
And to @connor_deroche - my brother, my best friend - I cannot even begin to say how proud I am of the professional and human you are.

Again, to the entire DPC team, in every department, thank you for the warmth, the mentorship, and for showing me what a sustainable, joyful career in this industry can look like.

I feel insanely blessed to be here. My heart is full.

Final send off for Natalie and the Dr. Phillips Center. 🤍⭐️

I always wondered when I would get the chance to truly showcase my love for what I do, and I am eternally grateful for this opportunity. To have been chosen to represent the Dr. Phillips Center has been a blessing and a challenge to push myself out of my comfort zone, whether it was teaching children or rehearsal for such an iconic show.

Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart, to the team at education and for my intern squad. Couldn’t have done this without every single person involved.

Shoutout to the amazing team:

Next to Normal has been, and always will be, a dream show of mine. I feel fortunate and grateful to have been able to portray Gabe alongside a cast and crew that was so easy to connect with.

This show and its exploration of mental health and trauma continues to be one that is truly meaningful and necessary in the medium of theatre. A huge thank you to my fellow cast members and friends: @cooper_lamontagne @eyyitsjax @lyndifloyd @ariflorespr @treydiazmurphy @emmacatedavis . The support and encouragement we were able to share with each other throughout the rehearsal process was so inspiring and special. I will always be grateful for y’all🫰

Another big thank you to @michaeldjablonski . Every pat on the back, nod of encouragement, and coach-like pep talk backstage was always appreciated and meant more than you know 🙏

Things about @drphillipsctr @adventhealthcfl’s production of @nexttonormaluk that just make sense 🤌:
•Gabe and Henry’s first appearances being in flannel so when Diana tells Henry he reminds her of someone during “Aftershocks”, it hits infinitely harder
•Henry’s beautiful stoner energy
•Natalie and Henry being so adorably, stupidly in love
•Gabe and Diana mirroring a lot of the West End direction—especially during “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” and “Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I’m Falling”
•Gabe’s kicked puppy dog eyes
•Gabe’s now obligatory counter-ography
•WHATEVER was happening during “I Dreamed a Dance” that had EVERYONE in the audience sniffling
•Gabe holding his stomach during “I’ve Been”
•Gabe screaming at Dr. Madden before “Didn’t I See This Movie”
•Gabe staying onstage during “A Light in the Dark”
•Dan legitimately starting to cry during “How Could I Ever Forget?”
•Gabe riffing on the word “on” in “Aftershocks”
•Henry riffing on the word “on” in “Hey 2”
•Gabe and Dan SQUEEZING each other after “I Am the One (Reprise)”
•Gabe putting his hand on Natalie’s shoulder before “Light” and her turning around in his direction as he exited because she thought she felt something
•Dan and Natalie laughing over the photos that were still on the floor from “Better Than Before” during “Light”
•Diana and Dr. Madden hugging during “Light”
•The LED lights lining the house and the lighting design as a whole

10/10. No notes. Absolutely FLAWLESS production.

God, I fucking love this show. Will never not buy a ticket if it’s being produced near me. Have seen it truly god knows how many times over the last 14 years and it NEVER gets old. 💜
