#JoshuaLightShow , rear projecting at the #FillmoreEast behind #TheDoors on May-22-1968.
Consisting of between six and eight members, JLS began a lengthy run as the in-house light show at the Fillmore East from the venue’s opening, on March 8th, 1968. Being possibly the only light show to have a permanent installation at a venue allowed them to fine tune their techniques and develop new gear and routines without the burden of load-ins and tear-downs, or adjusting to new spaces with their inherent limitations and quirks.

“Raindrops & Fireflies”

We got to see the blue ghost fireflies this weekend!! ✨✨✨ Went on a night hike with an awesome tribe through the oldest growth trees in the southeast ✨ The vibes were sooo magical! ✨

It reminded me of this painting I made for dear friends✨

“Raindrops & Fireflies”
24x36” acrylic on wood, 2015

I only have 2-3 prints of this one left!
and it is unlikely it will be printed again✨✨✨

The QUIETUS has included Kramer's "MUSIC FOR FILMS EDITED BY MOTHS" somewhere in the middle of their TOP 100 LP's of 2022 list.

Cool.

Buy it on limited-edition 'Milky Moth' vinyl from the Shimmy-Shop:
https://shimmy-disc.net/moths.html

Special Thanks to Will Ainsley, who wrote...

"For the most part, 'Music For Films Edited By Moths' appears to distance itself from the music Kramer is known for. With each grand chord change and gorgeous harmonic resolution, each stately cello rasp and pizzicato pluck, the landlubbing world of scratchy psychedelia and subdued slowcore seems left further and further behind. The dubby excursions of the last two songs, 'Dreams We Never Dreamed' and 'Or Perhaps You Imagined It All', are surely the most expansive and otherworldly things he's ever been involved in. Each piece twists and rolls together, like a shoal of exotic fish making stately, wobbling progress through the fathoms-deep murk."

RIP Manuel Göttsching! There aren't many single degrees of separation between the psychedelic rock wing of rhythm and improvisation that I've loved since first seeing the Grateful Dead in 1984, and the Detroit techno wing of rhythm and improvisation I fell in love with a decade later. But Berliner Göttsching, one-time guitarist for krautrock metallurgists Ash Ra Temple, whose long solo career traversed the spiritual prog/new age/electronic/jazz/ambient spaceways, made music that became the bridge. Even if he did not do so consciously. Especially the dance-music part.

Göttsching's gone on record to say that he did not conceive of "e2-e4," the 1981 track-album/composition-improvisation, as a club track. He was simply messing about in the studio, letting the sequencers and the polyphonic synths run while he soloed fluidly on his Gibson electric guitar. I am not sure whether other DJs began playing "e2-e4" before Larry Levan unleashed it at the Paradise Garage in 1983, but in New York it is now unquestionably a Garage classic. This began the track's journey into techno. In 1992, Derrick May beautifully remixed a somewhat cheesy Italian house version of "e2-e4" called "Sueño Latino"; in '94 Berlin and Detroit came together over it, as Basic Channel (Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus) and Paperclip People (Carl Craig) collaborated on "Remake (Basic Reshape)," full of heavy "e2-e4" samples and fierceness. More recently, excellent Detroit producer Scott Grooves did his own version.

Göttsching embraced his "club" bonafides enough that in 2006 he made a pretty excellent weird deep house record with Joe Clausell. But more than anything else, he loved bringing "e2-e4" to live audiences. In August 2008, he finally brought it to New York, to Lincoln Center Outdoors (co-produced by Wordless Music), on a stormy night backed by the Joshua Light Show. (Which is where Kate's photos are from.) It was an incredible hour of music and visuals. The Garage-heads danced their asses off. We did too.

Thank you Manuel Göttsching. Rest in Power!

Sam Waller interviews Kramer about his new ambient music LP, "Music For Films Edited by Moths", for THE QUIETUS.

@thequietus

"It's technically not ambient music – at least not as Eno described it," he says. "In the first ambient works by Eno, he'd just set some things in motion – then he'd go and make lunch, and when he'd come back, the piece was done. But what I'm doing isn't like that. I'm not removing myself from the process. I'm putting my nose to the grindstone and working on making things that I think are beautiful."
