Day 3
Our final day 🥲 We set off on Loch Linnhe. We paddled about for a while admiring the islands in the middle of the lochs looking for seals 🦭 The sun shone the wind blew it rained quite heavily towards the end. Day 2
I was absolutely terrified! As soon as I saw the flow (it was fast) I felt like bolting! I Kidd you not. Jess Philip knows me well by now she’s had to put up with me being absolutely terrified for the last three years. She definitely has the patience of a saint. I firmly believe in the thing that every so often you should have to be terrified of something- a sort of feel the fear & do it anyway thing. So every year I subject Jess to my fear and so far she’s been great with it. Why do I do it I hear you ask. It makes me feel alive!!!! As a haemorrhagic stroke survivor and brain surgery survivor it’s very important to my sense of self worth. #livingmybestlife #strokesurvivor #wildwomenSUPsymposium

Ever wondered who’s behind NZSUP?

We’re a volunteer committee made up of paddlers from around Aotearoa, with different backgrounds, experiences and ways of enjoying SUP.

From racing and SUP surfing to coaching, safety, events, clubs, exploring and simply getting out on the water, we’re a pretty varied bunch. 🏄‍♀️

Meet Jacqui, Bindy, Aaron, Mickie, Jo and Rod 👋

We’re here because we love SUP and want to help make the sport safer, more accessible, more connected and more welcoming for paddlers across New Zealand.

But NZSUP isn’t really about the committee. It’s about you.

So we want to know:

The MD Adventure Film Festival is one of our favourite weekends of the year. It’s our chance to celebrate the incredible adventures you all gets up to and hopefully inspire a few more along the way.

Nights like these seem to come to a pause in winter. But I think this year I’ve got to resist the urge to crawl into my winter hibernation. And make an effort to plan and enjoy evenings around the campfire, because they really are so good for the soul 🔥

When my alarm went off at 03.05 this morning I had a really good feeling. I’d packed the van the night before, inflated my Starboard paddleboard, my Oscar Propulsion paddle was in its place on the ceiling of my van. Buoyancy aid & QR waist belt check. I even remembered to pack my waterproof phone case, phew!
It really was the most spectacular sunrise! I saw loads of chics and slightly older geese waddling along the bank. I saw a fox drinking from the reservoir extending his neck trying very hard not to get his tootsies wet! #bewlwatersummersolstice #strokewarrior #oscarpropulsionpaddle #happiestoutdoors

This shot almost didn’t happen.

I’ve had this idea in my head for ages — paddle out from Tata Beach, line up the arch with a perfect sunset. Simple in theory… but between tides, weather, and timing, it turned into mission after mission that just didn’t quite work.

After a few failed attempts, I knew it needed the right moment and the right crew. I knew my “yes to any adventure” buddy @jotayls would be keen so we went for it.

@moananzsup in the water. GoPro rolling. Everything finally lined up.

And just like that… we got “the shot”

The ones you have to work for always feel better.

Chasing summits with the crew ✨

This has been the first summer in many years that I haven’t been for a trip up Mt Arthur. With the road being closed since the floods last year, I have definitely noticed how much we took it for granted. We have such awesome access to the outdoors in the Top of The South, and while I’m sure the Flora area is enjoying a break from humans. I can’t wait to get back into the local backcountry when possible 🫶🏻

For now we’ll be venturing off into other areas of our region and I hope with the great weather coming for this long weekend, you too are heading outside to enjoy it ✨
