Come run the Western States 100 with me! Check out YouTube for the full version! Link in bio for IG and here’s the link for Facebook: https://youtu.be/doyYP_xj8ug?si=g5VwDDekMKbn0HxX

I would say this is one of the more meaningful videos I’ve made, so I hope you enjoy it.

The race itself was an amazing experience. I particularly loved the first 25 miles of the event, which consisted of beautiful mountain views, ridge running, tall lush trees and forest. I also really enjoyed running through what is the most well known section of trail running in the United States: The Canyons. They were epic. They were hot, dusty, and more technical and steep than I expected. I loved my time running through the intense environment that they were. It was awesome.

I also loved the crowds and aid stations at this event. There is no race in US ultrarunning that compares to the energy at Western States. The spectators on the Escarpment were eccentric, as were the crowds at Robinson Flat, Michigan Bluff and Foresthill.

A big thanks goes out to my crew: Mom, Dad and pacer Joel Gartenberg. I also appreciate all the videos they took during the race (even if some of them were vertical lol).

Western States + Leadville 100 training updates! Haven’t posted about training as much as I wanted to this year. My excuse is that I’ve been busy doing said training lol. Things are going well!

Happy New Year!

2024 was one to remember. A lot happened but I am most proud of finishing my dietetic internship and passing my RD Exam to officially become a Registered Dietitian. Between finishing my nutrition studies and working, I also managed to run two more 100-mile races and did a lot of work to revamp @journey_running .

Also, it only took until the last day of the year, but I hit 3,000 miles of running in 2024. What started as a goal 2 years ago to become a more consistent runner by running a minimum of 200 miles per month for an entire year, has become a 2-year streak I am proud to still be continuing. As a byproduct of focusing on this consistency, the last 2 years have produced my first and only two 3,000 mile years, which was not my original goal.

The lesson: Focus on the process and being consistent and you will achieve big goals as a byproduct.

For fun, I compiled some statistics from 2024 that I found interesting:
Miles ran: 3002 miles
Time spent running, hiking and walking: 692 hours
Vertical feet climbed: 410,700 feet

Races completed: 5
Time spent racing: 73 hours
Races won: 2 😜
Volunteer Hours: 24 hours
Trail Work Hours: 8 hours
Miles spent course-marking: 15 miles
Miles spent pacing: 58 miles

Anyways, happy new year! It’s been fun reading everyone’s recaps.

Want to learn how to beat your old man up a mountain too? Hit me up at JourneyRunCoaching.com 😂 Jokes aside, it was great to be back at Bear Mountain. I try to run there every year when I come home for the holidays.

The Western States vlog! Going to try and document my training more as we go into next year. In typical fashion of myself, I recorded this yesterday and am already posting the first one a day late 😂

I’m doing this for a few reasons:
1) Over the last few months I have revamped my running and nutrition coaching business @journey_running and have been looking for a fun way to promote it. On that note, following that page or sharing it with a friend who could use running/nutrition coaching would mean a lot to me!
2) I post a lot about running but usually after I’ve completed an event. Hopefully this gives people a glimpse into what it’s like to train for ultras and/or how I do things.
3) To teach people about how to train for ultras, nutrition and running philosophy. The sport is better with knowledgeable athletes.

Disclaimer: not trying to be an influencer 😂 I probably won’t post every day. And certainly not trying to sell you a stupid supplement.

Fun weekend out in Moab for Dead Horse 50 Miler. Ended up getting 4th place for the women. Happy I got to spend the weekend and share the course with the hommies (Lizzy, James, and Stef)!
