Help Keep Georgia’s Geechee Stories Alive!

We just launched our Seed & Spark crowdfunding campaign for the Film Impact Georgia Rally — and the easiest, free way to help right now is to click “Follow.”

About the project:
After losing her mother, public historian Deitrah J. Taylor set out to trace her maternal family history in Liberty County, Georgia — and uncovered a story of cultural erasure hiding in plain sight. Geechee language and traditions are fading under stigma and gentrification, and Georgia’s Geechee voices are often overlooked.

Through this documentary, Taylor is recording family stories, language, and living memories before they disappear. We’ve created a ten-minute short, and now we’re raising funds to expand it into a longer film to share with festivals, museums, and the Gullah Geechee community.

Why it matters:
Every new follower on Seed & Spark shows real community support — and it costs nothing!

Thank you for helping keep these voices alive!

I’ve been working on a documentary project with the team of @joyefultimetrav and @jennlandia that we’re hoping to turn into something bigger, but for now we have this short film that’s premiering at @atlfilmsociety For Locals Only at the Tara Theater this Thursday! I’m proud as heck of it and would love to see you there.

Enthralling, delightful, even alarming evening with @ilyonwooauthor. She discussed her award-winning book “Master Slave Husband Wife,” the story of William & Ellen Craft. Thanks Macon for coming out and welcoming Woo and the Craft’s story to the town that enslaved but couldn’t hold William & Ellen.

Pixie Dust ain't got nothing on black women. I've been reflecting on the news a lot lately and the subconscious trauma is real but so is intentional healing and building. Thank you @fenikamiller and @a.black.woman for curating safe spaces. Thank you to this phenomenal group of entrepreneurs that created a safe space for my quirky jokes as I led pt 1 of a workshop on viewing data as currency.

Have a good night y'all
