When the world tries to discard you, may your real ones treasure you. I’m thankful for my tribe. I pray you always have loved ones that are a soft place to land. #family #friends #sisters #tribe #community @tjonesjolivet @revjuju @drnikiasrobert @joyjones007 @daholyhipster @drnaimalett @mzkarribaby @jamalhbryant

10 years ago this month, in the wake of the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Walter Scott and the shooting at Mother Emmanuel AME in Charleston, SC, my exhibition “DO or DIE: Affect Ritual Resistance” opened at the @halsey_institute.

Ten years. And, still…
The names have changed.
The hashtags have changed.
The platforms through which we encounter the images have changed.
But the spectacle of violence and death of Black people persists in the American psychology.

As I return to DO or DIE on this anniversary it’s not simply to memorialize to an old body of work, but as a reminder of the work still before us.

Art cannot resurrect the dead.
But it can refuse the narratives that kill us before we die… before we even begin to live.
