✨Highlights from our Fall Session 2026 Artist and Writer Residency✨ What an honor to host these four incredibly talented women! Thank you for sharing your time with us, and we look forward to following along your creative journeys.

Over the course of ten days, the residents dove into island life, connected with the community, shared and showcased their work, and embraced all this island has to offer, even through some very stormy weather!

Hood River artist & teacher Joy Kloman doesn’t believe in mistakes, only happy accidents. “The more paint you add, the better it gets,” Kloman told OPB.

In this video, she catches us up on a year of career highlights and demonstrates her process for creating the oil paintings in her latest series, “Epoch.”

Kloman has lived in Hood River for over twenty years while working as a painter, parent, and teacher of art classes & camps. This March, she received a grant from The Ford Family Foundation through the Oregon Arts Commission to attend a residency in Lisbon, Portugal. In May, she completed a solo residency at Materia Prima Foundation in Tuscany, Italy.

This August, Kloman will travel to Dampierre-sur-Boutonne, France after receiving the John Richardson French Residency Award. She is the 2026 winner of the Mary Blair Award for Art, and on the Fulbright Specialist Roster for art until 2028.
