“The month of February sure holds a very remarkable event in my life. It was on a February morning while bedridden with an illness that I woke up and discovered my hearing is gone. This makes it three years living with a hearing loss. It feels just like yesterday. I was depressed, confused as I watched my life take a new turn. I lost faith and was unsure of what the future holds for me. I was overwhelmed by the thought of” What happens now” “What’s next” each day that passes. It was a very terrible moment in my life. There was a tiny ray of hope for me when the doctor made mention of a device that can help deaf people hear. I looked forward to getting one even when the price wasn’t something I can afford all by myself. And then that very day after been fitted with my hearing aid by the doctor, a part of me that I thought was lost was back. From not being able to hear the loudest of sound, I can hear sounds. I can hold a meaningful conversation with my mum and siblings. I can hear someone knocks on the door. I can hear a car horn and it helped me became aware of my environment. Three years on this journey, I have realized that it’s totally out of my power to control how people see my disability and the choice to be happy despite all odds rest on my shoulders alone. You can help me raise a glass and celebrate the many times I didn’t let deafness win. “🥂

Deaf individuals have demonstrated that effective communication knows no bounds. Their unique perspectives, talents, and contributions are invaluable, emphasizing that disability should not be seen as a limitation but as a wellspring of strength.

Today, we commemorate the achievements, both significant and subtle, of our deaf friends and neighbors. We amplify their voices, and stand together, both literally and symbolically, as we work towards a more inclusive and accessible world for everyone.

As we comes to an end to Deaf Awareness Month today, let's remember that promoting awareness and support for the deaf community is an ongoing effort.

Thank you @diaryofalaterdeafened_adult

We appreciate everyone who continues to make a positive impact and advocate for this vital cause.

We always say that "The life of a volunteer is never dull" and that was why these selfless volunteers and founders of NGO'S/volunteers were celebrated and honoured with Individual awards for their service to humanity and Humanitarian acts at the Nigerian Volunteers Award ( @theofficialnva ) event which was held last Friday at the American Corner in Ikeja, Lagos.

Tis a good thing to be a volunteer but it is even better to be Intentional about volunteering.
