🇵🇸 Stack for a cause 🇵🇸

It is Peacetober and today's prompt is "swim", so i searched my shelves for books that have waters in the title (sea, river, water, swimming)

I made this stack for the #peacetoberbookstackchallenge hosted by @thereadingquest for #peacetober (hosted by @coffeesforgaza )

For more information please look at all of the slides in this post and check out the profiles of @coffeesforgaza and @thereadingquest

📚 10 before the end 📚

A stack of 10 books that I would love to read before the end of the year. It is a mix of genres. Some of these books are on my 26 for 2026, some of them I am going to buddy read and then there are also a few that I just really want to read before the year is over

I saw this tag going around, like every year, and I really wanted to join. I tagged a few friends, because I'd love to see their stacks too

QOTD: What is a book that you're hoping to read before the end of the year??

📚 This time in previous years 📚

I was wondering what I was reading in September in the previous years and these are some books that I was reading in September 2023, 2024 and 2025

September 2023:
🍂 The heart principle - 4.5⭐️ (one of my fav romances! The third one in a series of interconnected standalone romances)
🍂 Breasts and Eggs - 4⭐️ (I felt like I read this at the perfect time. Really loved it)
🍂 The hating game - 3.5⭐️ (I still need the watch the movie, is it good??)

September 2024:
🍂 Through the woods - 3.5⭐️ (a graphic novel with some spooky short stories, very folklore. Great for this time of year)
🍂 Carnality - 4⭐️ (such a wild ride, and very addictive! But strange!)
🍂 Fangs - 3.5⭐️ (another graphic novel. This one is about vampires and I thought it was funnier than I expected)

September 2025:
🍂 Horror movie - 4⭐️ (my first Paul Tremblay and I loved this. Do not pick this up if you are looking for a fast paced slasher, because that's not what it is, but it was still really good)
🍂 The tenant of Wildfell hall - 4.5⭐️ (i fell in love with Helen, the main character, and this was so ahead of its time)
🍂 Kindred - 5⭐️ (The best book on this list and also the best book I read in 2025! This was impossible to put down, so important, so beautiful. I highly recommend)

I tagged a few people, because I love to see what you all were reading this time in previous years 🫶🏼
But if you want to do this too and I didn't tag you, please consider yourself tagged too 🫶🏼

QOTD: What were you reading in September last year?

BELONGING IN A WORLD OF BOOKS ✨❤️

Books filled with belonging in its various forms ❤️✨🫂

I often am drawn to stories filled with belonging, whether it’s found families, safe spaces, or just people working together for mutual benefits.

Here is a list I curated, it’s not all inclusive since there is a sea of books and anything can speak to us reader and making us feel like we belong. Hopefully can find something in these suggestions if you are feeling isolated or in need of a friend. MY DMs ARE OPEN IF YOU NEED A FRIEND TOO ❤️

#belonging #books #friends #community #bookstagram

Reconnecting with ancestry, heritage, & ways of living. 60% into Where the Wildflowers Grow and it screams this!

Family isn’t always blood - and often the best families are found in literature and life.

Misfits who came together from a variety of circumstances and thriving from their togetherness.

What are we without our friends ❤️

Those that are there in our darkest times without judgment and with support deserve the world.

No one is free until all are free. Everyone deserves a world where they belong. Humanity at its best is when we collectively work to liberate others and those who most deserve and need it.

Finding belonging in yourself is one of the key steps to feeling like you belong with others and allow you to accept their love and support.

When I posted my June wrap-up, I realised I hadn’t put posts on for a couple of books I read.

One being, Juno Loves Legs by @karl_geary … Irish, queer & heartbreaking… sign me up 🤭 I had high hopes for this book as I know it’s a firm favourite with the Thelma to my Louise, @conversationswithkara ,who over the last year or so, I realised we have very similar taste. And also @readsbyross who has the BEST Irish & queer recs.

This is the story of Juno & Legs, set in Dublin in the 1980’s. A time when religion was used as an excuse for cruel behaviour & people were persecuted & shunned from society for their sexuality. Two misfits create an unbreakable bond, battling poverty & toxic relationships. Even when at one point their roads take a different turn they gravitate back together.

This book is about love & friendship, breaking away & finding freedom. It’s about grief & sacrifice… it’s about survival.

I feel like this book doesn’t get talked about enough. The prose is beautiful & heartbreaking. I made the mistake of reading this in public 😭 Thank you sunglasses for hopefully hiding my tears 🙏🏻

This was a buddy read with @rootsinlibrary & @joysbookcase 👯‍♀️

I ADORE Irish lit! Have you read this or is it on your tbr? I definitely recommend it 💛

I’m totally aware we are now twenty days into July but i realised i didn’t do a June wrap up.

I only managed six books in June (thanks migraines) BUT what an absolute amazing month… quality over quantity!

•Down Below by Leonora Carrington - NF
•The Make-Believe by Hannah Murray - NF ⭐️
•Bad Habit by Alana S Portero - ⭐️👯‍♀️ buddy read with @melreadsx
•Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney ⭐️👯‍♀️2️⃣6️⃣ buddy read with @melreadsx @rosaareads @rootsinlibrary @joysbookcase
•Juno loves legs by Karl Geary ⭐️👯‍♀️ @rootsinlibrary @joysbookcase
•The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante ⭐️💔

NF: two out of six were non-fiction.
⭐️: FIVE out of the six were five star reads
👯‍♀️: three out of six were buddy reads
2️⃣6️⃣: one out of the six was from my 26 in 26.
💔: I finished the final book in the Neapolitan quartet & I’ll never be the same again.

Have you read any of these titles?

✨ MID-YEAR BOOK CELEBRATION TAG ✨

Can’t believe we are already halfway through the year now. It was a rough winter and spring for me with seasonal depression and work-life balance. But coming out of it now feeling lighter.

Tagged by the queen herself @conversationswithkara 🩷. I will tag a few if you want to join in on the fun.

Swipe through to see my choices and let me know your thoughts on these reads or what your choices would be.

MASTERPIECE OF A BOOK! Eye opening and thought provoking surrounding prison-industrial complex and systemic issues in our country.

The FMC’s struggles in the ranch were relatable to this clumsy reader.

UGH MADE ME CRY SO HARD. I related to Juno from her sibling relationship, parent battling alcohol addiction, and how hard she loves her friend. Hit me where it hurt.

*typo: FAVORITE* Basic and proud 🏒 Ilya all day ❤️

DELICIOUS YEARNING AND WRITING WAS EVERYTHING.

I haven’t really shut up about this one since March. Met the author too this year and she is just the best 😭❤️

Love Rachel Reid but the first book was rough. Audio made it harder to get through…. LOOKING AT YOU KIP!

Novella filled with so much emotion, humanity, and politics

NEED TO SEE HOW IT ENDS AFTER THE CLIFFHANGERS

heard so much about this and some of my trusted reading buddies have raved about it!

Been on hold at library for too long now and I know my baddie buddies love this one too.

Purely bought for the cover 🤷‍♀️

Love this whole clip ❤️

☀️ happy summer to all

🎵📚🎬 Moments in media that changed my life 🎬📚🎵

I remember that this was a trend back when I just started bookstagram and it was a trend that I loved. So I thought, after all of these years, it was fun to make an updated version. I am also tagging some friends, but no pressure 🩷

Slide 2: 📖 Sister outsider by Audre Lorde
Slide 3: 🎬 Spirited Away
Slide 4: 🎵 People have the power by Patti Smith
Slide 5: 📖 Letters to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke
Slide 6: 🎬 Mary and Max
Slide 7: 🎵 Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Slide 8: 📖 Rifqa and Perfect victims by Mohamed El-Kurd
Slide 9: 📖 The inevitable by Emily Dickinson
Slide 10: 🎬 (500) days of summer
Slide 11: 🎵 Society by Eddie Vedder
Slide 12: 📖 Conversations with friends by Sally Rooney
Slide 13: 🎬 Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

QOTD: Which slide is your favorite? Do we have any in common?

If you see this and also want to try this challenge, consider yourself tagged 🩷

I could've included even more quotes, because this book is FULL of good quotes. A must read!

I love Studio Ghibli and this is probably my favorite Studio Ghibli movie, Spirited Away. This moment in the movie is perfect!! 🥹

Patti Smith is an amazing human being. Love her songs so much! And I need to read more of her books. I loved Just kids

This book is probably one of my most annotated books ever. It is small, but it is truly life changing

Mary and Max is my all-time favorite movie.

I know the term aspies (or asperger) is outdated, and that every person with autism is unique, but this movie is truly one of the most heartfelt movies I have ever seen, talking about autism, friendship and found family. It made me laugh as much as it made me cry. So beautiful

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, my favorite song!!

I read Rifqa first and I LOVED the poem "This is why we dance". All the poems were really good, but this one stood out to me. And then Mohamed El-Kurd wrote a book, Perfect victims, that is basically entirely about what this poem entails for me.

Perfect victims is a book that I already reread and I think everyone should read this book

My favorite poem ever

(500) days of summer. IYKYK

Society by Eddie Vedder

~c o n v e r s a t i o n s~w i t h~f r i e n d s~
last month, i had the pleasure of joining a group buddy read with @rosaareads @melreadsx @rootsinlibrary & @joysbookcase… we read conversations with friends by the amazing sally rooney.

i loved this one & it’s definitely my favourite sally rooney book so far. i only have one more to read which i’m reading this month (intermezzo).

CWF is about best friends (ex lovers) frances & bobbi who are both early 20’s & their friendship with married couple melissa & nick who are both in their 30’s. the story explores friendships, sexuality, toxic & controversial relationships, age gaps (our sally loves an age gap) & monogamy. and of course it wouldn’t be a rooney novel without the talk of politics & class.

i know in the buddy read group there was mixed opinions about frances but i honestly took to her as soon as i ‘met’ her 🫶🏻 & i am a proud frances defender. although it was not mentioned, she was 100% autistic coded & i related to her on so many things (minus affairs with married men). i also loved bobbi, i thought she was hilarious, although there was a couple of things that slightly irritated me at the end.

one thing i absolutely love about rooney, is she has this amazing talent of making you relate & fall in love with characters who are flawed & do the most questionable things. but like in real life, peoples upbringings say a lot about how they behave in adulthood & this shows in a lot of her work.

have you read any sally rooney? 💛

ps melissa was a bitch & i stand by that statement.
