This year has been one of the most formative years of my life. I truly tried to commit to myself and be intentional with my time. I have completely fallen in love with myself; I love all my emotions, my intentions, and my faults. I had spent so much time being so hard and critical on myself that I dug myself into a ditch of self-loathing. Every day, I constantly focused on all my mistakes. I felt so much guilt and shame toward myself. I felt like I wasn’t a good friend or companion. I constantly lied to myself in efforts to feel better, but I was only met with frustration. Only when I started to accept and be honest with who I am did I grow little by little to love myself again. I had to address the behaviors I didn’t like and follow through with changing them. I value honesty, consideration, and trust more than anything. I want to live in my true self. That is the only way I can be content and proud of myself.

My focus all year was myself. I never addressed my current self, how I was feeling, what was important to me, and how I could help myself. I always considered everything and everyone else over myself. The concept of being an individual was never allowed. I felt like for so long I was just experiencing all of my feelings, and it took so much time to figure myself out, but I was determined. I started from square one, journaling everything. I needed to write my feelings down to get past them. I began to discover what made me feel safe and what I needed in my life. I knew that being with my friends made me happy, so I just started saying yes to everything they offered. Yes to eating out, yes to spur-of-the-moment vacations, yes to anything that could make me happier. It had been over a year since I had gone out at night. I remember when Nico started inviting me out I would only go out for the length of Nico’s set and then go immediately back home. I was so nervous stepping out of my comfort zone, but it made me happy to see and support my friends. I started to feel like I belonged in a community. I only started to feel happier when I pushed myself to do hard things.
