Some weeks are about the places.
Some are about the people you meet along the way.
Some are about what happens between the stage and the next soundcheck.

Gas stations.
Backstage tables.
Megaphones.
Chess games.
Trumpets that refuse to stand still.

Different years. Same band.
30 years on stage. Brussels based.

2000
Mechelen.
Spijkenisse.
Two festivals. Two countries. Keep moving.

2003
Brussels, Grande Place.
Sam and Sam on trumpet.
A lot of noise in a very big square.

2008
Würzburg.
Hanging out backstage.
The gig is coming.
For now, coffee, conversation and waiting.

2015
Zaventem.
Piet and Bart going at it on stage.
Then laughing with people in the crowd.

2019
Leuven.
Meldorf.
Megaphones up.
Brass flying.
Bart pointing at Jo.
Piet yelling into the night.
The audience comes along.

2020
Budapest.
Cancelled.
COVID.

2025
Flobecq.
The electric set is done.
So naturally the band keeps playing.
Acoustic.
Right in the middle of the people.

Dendermonde.
Soundcheck.
Chess.
Then drums, bass, horns and accordion.

Somewhere between the stage and the next gas station,
there is always another song.

Some weeks smell like summer. Dust on festival roads. Accordion cases in the shade. A dog sleeping beside the musicians. A square that is empty in the afternoon and overflowing by night.

This week. Different years. Same band.
30 years on stage. Brussels based.

2000–2002
Belgian park festivals. Village kiosks. Open-air stages by the sea. A band learning that summer audiences arrive from every direction.

2006
France.
Toulouse. Ichis. Saint-Vallier.
Improvised stages. Ping-pong between soundchecks. A little girl dancing in front of the stage while a whole accordion marching band joins the concert.
That tour felt less like a schedule and more like a travelling village.

2007
Hoorn. Châlons-en-Champagne.
The calm before the crowd. Then the blur that happens when brass, rhythm and people start moving together.

2008
Canada.
Vancouver Island. Fort MacLeod.
Waterfalls. Workshops with musicians from elsewhere. Night concerts under huge skies.
The road became a landscape lesson.

2016
Gentse Feesten.
Rehearsals behind closed curtains. Guest musicians from DROM. Mec Yek voices joining the stage. And a Sint-Jacobs crowd that seemed to breathe with the band.

2025
Genk.
Afro-Latino.
New songs from Vertigo. A catwalk instead of a club floor. The same accordion energy carrying three decades of history into another summer night.

Different festivals. Different countries. Different generations in the crowd.
Still arriving with instruments. Still leaving with stories.

We don’t archive the past. We carry it.
Still playing. Still moving. Still open to the next stage.

#JauneToujours #BrusselsMusic #GentseFeesten #FestivalLife #OnTour A portrait of Jaune Toujours musicians Mattias Laga and Mathieu Verkaeren sitting on chairs in a sunny French landscape in Ichis in 2006, smiling at each other while holding a clarinet and a guitar, with a large brown dog lying at their feet. Overlay text reads: “This week, across 30 years.”
