A PROUD UCLA BRUIN MOMENT!

There is something especially meaningful about seeing a film you helped produce featured in the newspaper of your alma mater, UCLA!

I am honored to be featured in this UCLA article about CHRYSALIS, a deeply moving film inspired by the true-life experiences of Vietnamese-American artist Sir Daniel K. Winn and his childhood in war-torn Saigon.

As a UCLA alumnus and producer of the film, I was drawn to Daniel’s extraordinary story of love, loss, family, displacement, and the enduring power of art. At its heart, CHRYSALIS is a story about the people we love, the goodbyes we never got to say, and the memories that stay with us for a lifetime.

I am incredibly proud of director J. Robert Schulz; producers Sir Daniel K. Winn, Randy Slavin and our remarkable cast and creative team. And the film’s international journey, with an international release, including its market debut at the 2026 Marché du Film in Cannes, and receiving 5 honors at the Los Angeles Tribune International Film Festival (Best feature film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Child Actor and Best Orchestral Score). We are excited for our US Premiere at the Beverly Hills Film Festival in April 2027.

Thank you to UCLA for sharing our story and shining a light on this very personal and culturally significant film. It’s especially rewarding to bring this project full circle with a feature in the newspaper of the university that helped shape my own journey.

CHRYSALIS — a story that reminds us that even when a goodbye lasts only a moment, its impact can last a lifetime.

The US premiere of Chrysalis, presented by the Beverly Hills Film Festival in April 2027, will coincide with the 52nd anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam. It will introduce the film’s story of family, displacement and remembrance to U.S. audiences while building on its Vietnam response.

“Chrysalis” made its market debut at the 2026 Marché du Film in Cannes, where it held two market screenings. At DANAFF IV, Kieu Chinh received the Screen Excellence Merit Award for her screen career spanning nearly seven decades and more than 100 roles.

At the Los Angeles Tribune International Film Festival, the film received five honors: Best Feature Film; Best Director for J. Robert Schulz; Best Actress for Kieu Chinh; Best Child Actor for nine-year-old Vietnamese actor Uy Nhan; and Best Orchestral Score for Motion Picture for “Chrysalis,” composed by Elia Cmiral. At nine, Uy Nhan became LATIFF’s inaugural Best Child Actor and one of the youngest documented Vietnamese recipients of a U.S. film-festival acting award. @thekieuchinh @sirdanielwinn @tienphammusic @chrysalismovie2026

Over the weekend, @chrysalismovie2026 (Mãi Nợ Một Lời Tạm Biệt) officially made its Vietnamese debut.

Inspired by the memoir and life of artist and filmmaker @sirdanielwinn, Chrysalis is a powerful story of adversity, perseverance, transformation, and love.

For ESELO founders @osharlita and @dualsportlo, serving as Executive Producers on this project has always been about more than bringing a film to the screen. It reflects art's power to carry meaningful stories across borders and into the lives of others.

That same journey inspired the creation of Chrysalis Bourbon, crafted in tribute to the film and its enduring themes.

Looking ahead, Chrysalis will premiere in the U.S. in April 2027, followed by a full theatrical release in Spring 2027.

Must be 21+ to enjoy Chrysalis Bourbon. Please drink responsibly.

There are some projects that become more meaningful to you with time, and Chrysalis - Mãi Nợ Một Lời Tạm Biệt has become one of those for me. 🤍

At its heart, Chrysalis is a story about memory, family, loss, survival, and the pieces of our childhood that never completely leave us. Inspired by the life of Sir Daniel K. Winn, the film takes us back to Vietnam during a time of tremendous change, through the eyes of a child trying to understand a world far bigger and more complicated than himself.

What touched me most about this story is that underneath the history, it is deeply human. It is about the people who shape us, the choices that stay with us, the things left unsaid, and the way we carry our past with us even after decades have gone by.

Being able to contribute a small piece to this story as Birthmother was incredibly special to me. As a Vietnamese actress who has built so much of my career in America, there was something very emotional about coming home and seeing this story on a Vietnamese cinema screen.

I’m deeply thankful to our director J. Robert Schulz for trusting me with this character and for the care he put into telling such a personal story. To Sir Daniel K. Winn, thank you for having the courage to open such an intimate part of your life and allow all of us to step inside it.

And to share a film with the legendary Kiều Chinh is something I will always hold very close to my heart. Her career has carried Vietnamese stories across generations and across continents, and simply being part of the same ensemble is an honor I don’t take lightly.

Thank you to our producers, cast, crew, and every person behind the camera who gave a piece of themselves to this film. I may be one small part of Chrysalis, but I’m very proud to be one of the many people who helped bring it to life.

After traveling through Cannes, DANAFF, Los Angeles, and finally coming home to Vietnam, our little chrysalis gets to open its wings. 🦋

For my brother, J. Robert Schulz. 🖤🎬

Honored to accept the Best Director award on behalf of @jrobertschulz at LATIFF 2026 @latfilmfestival

From the very beginning, I couldn’t have imagined a better director to bring Chrysalis to life. His vision, his artistry, and the heart he brought to this story made this journey something I’ll always cherish.

A story that began with @sirdanielwinn memoir found its way through all of us and onto the screen and I’m proud to have shared that journey with both of you.

Proud of you, brother. This moment belongs to you. 🏆
