Join us in celebrating the talented artists of this year's PGNY exhibition!

Commanding Color: 2026 PGNY Printmakers Showcase
On view: September 25 - November 20
Reception: Friday, 9/25, 6-8 pm

James Richard Schutt is a Binghamton, NY based self-taught artist who enjoys incorporating personal elements of emotion in his works. Discovering painting recently and drawing on influences from a wide range of experiences, James aims to introduce elements of historical significance related to personal meaning.

Artist Statement:
I strive to loosely develop themes around personal meanings which capture a moment of emotional power. By striking an inner chord immersed in the idea behind the art, I don’t limit myself to one medium or “style”. I prefer to directly engage the artistic process on the singular principle of how the subject relates to my expressive attachment and interpretation. By devoting my energy equally between considering and conceiving art, I’m allowed to focus on the complete process of creativity. Working primarily in oils and acrylics with (at times) accompanying themes of spray paint, screen print elements, acetate, and photo gels, I’m allowed to maintain an open-ended approach to my work.

Grateful hearts at Root Cellar Music Studio today. 🤍🎶

Huge thanks to Jim Schutt for gifting us with two of his incredible Grateful Dead-inspired pieces: a stunning photo of 710 Ashbury Street and a vibrant take on the Wall of Sound. We hung them while spinning vinyl and listening to Cornell ‘77—a perfect soundtrack for these amazing additions to our music space and Dead collection.

Later that day, we learned Bob Weir had passed. His music, and the art it inspires, reminds us how connected we are through these shared moments. 💀🥀

Thank you, Jim, for bringing more soul, color, and history into our studio. 🖼️✨
