You’ve seen me use these battery operated rechargeable lighbulbs by @generalelectric for dining room lights- but they can also work for lamps!!! No more cords tripping little kids as they run around your house. Now you can literally put a lamp ANYWHERE! The Schill property is almost done!! Stay tuned! The Schill Property just underwent a huge renovation. Dark stained beams were installed on the ceiling and they are outstanding. Unfortunately, this made the old mantle stick out like a sore thumb. They were were going to replace it with a beam like the ceiling- but then we talked about just staining the existing mantle. This was a way to save a lot of money and really get the same visual effect. More money for other projects! Win, win, win. With my block sander I lightly scuffed the mantle and washed it. I used a brush to apply @generalfinishes Java Gel stain (my go-to) and voila! Done! What’s great about GF’s gel stain, as opposed to just painting it black, is that the gel stain allows the grain to still show through. So you don’t lose that awesome wood texture. I have done dining tables, banisters, railings, several mantles with general finishes Java gel stain. It takes little to no little prep. In fact the instructions say that you don’t even have to sand it before hand. I like to do that so that the stain dries faster. And a small amount goes a very long way.
