Just some highlights from this summer:

1 - A snowy hike in early July
2 - My first time hiking this alternative to the Grouse Grind with a bit of scrambling and some stellar views near the top
3 - Riding in Chilliwack Community Forest last weekend
4 - Out on an after work hike to Goat Mountain, at this point almost back to the Grouse Gondola in the last hour of daylight
5, 6 - Ferry bike ride to the Sunshine Coast. 10/10 ride all around and would love to do some more ferry rides in the future.
7 - One of many pictures of my new bike I took in the month after buying it
8 - Watching Olympic swimming in the morning and then hiking St Mark's Summit in the afternoon, makes for a quality day
9 - Out on a Lower Seymour Demo Forest ride out to Seymour Dam. Still one of my favorite places to ride around Vancouver.
10 - Some folks hitting the Baker pond skim during a June heat wave

Is anyone else obsessively checking the weather forecast every day or is it just me? Trying to make weekend plans feels like a roll of the dice lately, with a hint of desperation.

Multiple days of sun equals climbing. One day of sun equals hiking - how high can I drive? Snow equals skiing. But snow then sun equals touring, depending on temps. Rain could be skiing, but depends on FLs. Rain could also be hiking but then ski the next day? Or sun then snow? Climb then ski? Hike and ski? Is it spring or winter? Cloudy then who knows. Should I cancel my hut booking again? Or fuck it should I just go? 🤔🤯🫠

Photos from last June, but they feel relevant! Thanks for two out of three @jsmooth235.

Got my fix before putting the skis away for the summer. Happy to have like-minded friends who are always up for mountain shenanigans!

PSA: don’t forget to put sunscreen on the underside of your nose, ears, and all those tiny gaps between your shirt and your backpack 🫠

Some highlights from May!

1. Charcateski at the top of Cypress. This was some of our finest work.
2. Skiing Mt St Helens. My first time skiing a Cascade volcano and the biggest ski objective I've ever done.
3. Closing out the Whistler season with a warm day of spring skiing day and a just barely holding on snowpack.
4. Gravel biking the Fisherman's Trail in North Van on my birthday! It was my first time taking my new bike up there.
5. Also marking my birthday with all sorts of good food. Chocolate cake + raspberry sauce is always an amazing combo.

CharCATeSKI
Skinned up a mountain with @henrythekittyboy and saw the sunset through forest fire smoke. Enjoyed @charcuteski at the top. Thanks @2dep4u for organizing and Josh, Michelle and Dmitry for carrying the goodies up

Impromptu night owl skiing at @cypressmtn followed by food and beer (mine was the legendary @backcountrybrewing Widowmaker)

I've missed moments unique to Vancouver like these

Weekend at Golden Ears Peak! Tough hike with an overnight bag, but 100% worth it.

I think it's difficult to capture the scale and scope of Yosemite Valley with just pictures.

For comparison, the Chief in Squamish is a huge 700m tall wall of granite that is hugely visible everywhere in town.

Where I'm standing at Glacier Point is already 1000m above the valley floor, an entire km of granite cliffs.

Half Dome behind me is 1500m above the valley, it's like two Chief's stacked on top of each other.

Clouds Rest, the peak just to the left of Half Dome, is another 300m higher still. It does not have the sheer vertical cliffs but it is still solid granite walls all the way down to the base of the peak.

On Sunday I got back from a 10 day trip around California, exploring both the coast and the mountains. 🌊 🏞️

Thank you @mariasunshine_canada for showing me around the best places in San Francisco and coming out to Yosemite with me! And for the parts of the trip I did solo, I also appreciated all the helpful advice on what places were worth visiting and what spots were less worth stopping by. It made the trip a lot more fun than it would have been otherwise.

This is what a ‘skyscraper’ really looks like! Located in British Columbia, Mount Assiniboine is a mountain that truly asserts itself within the landscape. At an astonishing elevation of 3,618 meters, summiting its prominent pyramidal peak is best left for experienced climbers, but those looking for a challenging hike can opt for one of three great trails in the surrounding area, and be rewarded with stunning views of shining lakes, alpine meadows, and of course, rocky mountain peaks!

Please remember to follow the advice of your local health authorities.
