Tomorrow night, 11 internationally acclaimed dancers and 25 Arizona dance students will come together at the historic Orpheum Theatre for the 2026 Arizona Grand Gala of Stars.

Created through the vision and dedication of The Hartley Dance Project and Studio R Ballet, this extraordinary evening celebrates world-class artistry while creating meaningful opportunities for Arizona’s next generation of dancers. Proceeds will support scholarships for aspiring artists facing financial barriers.

Last night, I joined with other members of Phoenix’s LGBTQ+ community at Boycott Bar to stand in solidarity with those affected by the shooting at Venture-N in Tucson.

For so many LGBTQ+ people, myself included, establishments like these are where we found belonging. They are where we first came out, found friendship and love, and discovered a community in which we belonged. They are our safe spaces. When this senseless violence reaches one of them, it hits all of us personally.

We held a moment of silence for Vincent Siqueiros, Cameron Capara, everyone affected by this tragedy, and our entire LGBTQ+ community. It was a deeply meaningful way to spend an evening, surrounded by a community that stands together in grief, love, and solidarity.

Let’s be there for each other.
