Congratulations to longtime UW SMPH faculty member Janis Tupesis, MD ‘01, who has been named President-Elect of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM). He will help guide the federation’s work to strengthen emergency care worldwide through education, standards, advocacy and international collaboration.

IFEM is the world’s largest federation of emergency care organizations, with member organizations spanning 70 countries.

“I am truly grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me by my colleagues and the 70 national organizations represented there. I look forward to working alongside this global community to strengthen emergency care systems, support workforce development, and improve access to high-quality emergency care for all people everywhere.”

A former D1 volleyball player at George Mason University, Janis brings a lifelong connection to the sport—and a career spent expanding access to health, education, and leadership around the world.

He’s supported medical training in post-conflict countries, built global health programs, and mentored the next generation of changemakers. Now, he’s joining us to help grow opportunities through volleyball.

Presentation 2 today was on court movements including dynamic warm up and a different approach to change of direction.

Was even better I had Mila Tupesis from @madtownvolleyball as my demonstrator. She did a fantastic job

So appreciate @lovbclubs having me out for a few days to share knowledge on sports performance training for this amazing sport🏐

Incredible coaches as well with great questions and a growth mindset!
