This cycle, in addition to my race for re-election to the Supreme Court, three crucial Court of Appeals judicial contests will be decided this November. I’m honored to be on the ballot with these brave and outstanding Judges: John Arrowood, Toby Hampson, and Christine Walczyk.

It has been a privilege to be campaigning with these dedicated jurists who believe that North Carolina’s courts should be fair, independent, and uphold the rule of law. This November, look for their names on the ballot. The path to a fair and just North Carolina runs through our courts.

This morning, the NC Court of Appeals upheld the power grab that shifted appointment power to the Board of Elections from the Governor to the Auditor.

North Carolinians voted to give Governor Stein this power – but after the election, Republicans co-opted a Hurricane relief bill to make Dave Boliek the only auditor in the country to oversee elections.

In his first year overseeing elections, Boliek has:
🔴 Eliminated campus voting sites.
🔴 Cut Sunday early voting hours.
🔴 Hired partisan staff who threatened local elections officials.

Both Republicans on the court panel upheld the ruling, while Democratic Judge John Arrowood dissented, writing: ”It is not a matter of giving precedence to the Governor’s policy preferences over the Auditor or the General Assembly; it is a matter of recognizing the duties reserved by the Constitution. I respectfully dissent.”

While Republicans are using the courts to rubber stamp the legislature’s unconstitutional power grabs, Democratic judges are standing up for our country.
