Choo choo!!!!!!!

Tomorrow we are going to be woooshing with @judiths_pool !!!!

Judith is in Dundee for a short and sweet time only, as part of an artist exchange between @nieuwevide and @generatorprojects . She is very excited about seeing things like big hills and bridges (pictured) but also about getting to do a wooosh!!!!

Tomorrow we will find out what she has even been doing with her time here, what her favourite thing about Dundee is, what she even does usually, and maybe more things than that!

HALF 8 !! That’s 8.30 PM !!!! That’s 20.30!!! See you there

Love wooosh x xxxxx

A big Thank You to all who came along to Wooosh with ourselves and @burnt_bongo last Thursday!!!

All in attendance were brave enough to bravely brave the arctic winds that had descended upon the Perth Road. In a deeply unusual turn of events, almost everyone was on time - Wooosh made the executive decision to implement a half hour delay, giving everyone some time to warm up while slamming a wee half at the Orwell, and resetting balance in the universe. Not everyone had brought gloves, even though we had told them to.

The fact we’d agreed to let Ben show 10 photos, and had accepted his very slightly pedantic curatorial schema, meant that the install of the wooosh took much longer than usual, which helped us be all the more late and cold.

Before the sharp mood shift of the interrogation, Ben said lots of heartwarming things to the enormous and eager gathered crowd. He told us that photography was an excuse to put himself in new situations, form connections, and meet new people; that his love for it was really a love for the friends he has made and continues to make. We all said ‘aww’ together, partly because we felt a deep sensation of love and communion, and partly because Jek told us to.

Ben’s vast photography knowledge exposed its limits in our questioning: he didn’t know exactly how many photos he’d ever taken, or when his book was coming out, or why he thought his eyes were better than everyone else's. He wasn’t even able to fully explain to us why all photos are rectangle shaped - but maybe it’s good for life to maintain some of its mysteries.

What he does know, and what really matters, is what Wooosh knows too - that you should almost always use art as a clever trick to bring people together and make friends, especially when it is very cold outside and you aren’t adequately prepared for the conditions.

Ben took photo no. 3 of us all to commemorate the occasion. Thank you Ben! Here’s to 10 more years!!!!!

Special shout out to our new social media intern @ohsohudso and our guerilla vine management technician @josephdonald117 !!!!

Hello, that's a good yellow! ✨

This popping piece is by Judith Pool (@judiths_pool ), one of our exhibiting artists at the Arkive (@arkiveshop ) pop-up this weekend at our space!

We invited Arkive Cosmetics to host their pop-up event at our space, to create a place where you can rescue beautiful, clean beauty products at a reduced price, ánd immerse yourself in an amazing collection of artworks by different talented artists like Judith Pool!

If you like art and cosmetics this is something you for sure don't want to miss✨

Judith studied painting and graphics at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. There she began to explore size, colour and volume in painting and graphics. From there, Pool created a basis from which she still works. After graduating Judith left figurative painting and focused on colour and movement. From this came the so-called 'Wiggles'. These are paintings with a central moving part that contrasts with the outer parts, in colour and thickness of the paint. This effect is achieved by playing with layers, creating a lot of relief and rubbing paint off the canvas. This creates a marking effect. It shows the attempt to make something disappear, but at the same time what was remains visible.

Recently Judith Pool has been sanding with a sander to see what emerges from the old layers of her paintings. Reverse painting is a new process for her. For Pool, playing and working intuitively is important. It is important that a work arises from the need to discover something, whether the starting point is a story, colour or memory. Judith Pool is interested in discovering the world around her with an infinitely curious attitude. Can you touch art or still see it when it hangs so high? Can you make it appear or disappear?
