Us 🤝🏽 Props

Props are equipment (blocks, straps, bolsters, cushions, blankets, etc) that can help support your body, make poses more accessible, or add a challenge! They allow for comfort and safety and are okay for anyone to use in any class—even when not instructed to.

Try using a prop the next time you come to class. 😊

“The Moms” pulled off an amazing surprise this Christmas - for all SEVEN of us! For a 24 hour period starting Christmas Eve, one by one we opened a gift that we will each cherish that captures a moment in time that meant the world to each of us - for many different reasons.

I’ll note that this trip has been a literal decade in the making. Every year we said let’s go to Fogo, and we never did. Finally, we did.

We did so much in just three short days. We also sang a lot of Taylor Swift songs. We laughed a lot, cried a lot, ate a lot - and had one or two drinks.

We crossed literal oceans to get there. One of us from Australia, and then of course the exciting crossing from Farewell to Fogo Island. We encourage each other to do things that might not be super comfortable. We cheer each other on. We like traditions - like screaming Celtic Connection 16 for a while, living off snack foods, dip, and margaritas, and there’s a trend developing to run into cold oceans together.

Taking time for yourself doesn’t have to mean time by yourself. Taking time for yourself with your besties is something we would definitely recommend. Sam’s already got next summer’s trip planned, we can’t wait to find out what we’re going to be doing!

On behalf of Samantha, Christa, Julie, Lisa, Brittany, Sarah and myself, thank you to our mamas and to Kevin Tobin for the amazing artwork! We love it so much.

Meet Julie, a clinical psychologist with a passion for promoting health and wellness. With a M.Sc in Clinical Psychology from the University of Edinburgh and a graduate program in Clinical Epidemiology at the MUN Faculty of Medicine under her belt, Julie is currently completing a PhD in Experimental Psychology behavioral medicine at Memorial. Her research concentration is in Health & Wellness, with a focus on chronic pain management. Outside of academia, Julie's accomplishments include racing marathons around the world and founding NL Centre for Mindfulness Inc, where she holds the role of Research Director. She works with corporate organizations of varying sizes across government and private sectors as well as elite athletes to provide accessible, evidence-informed Trauma-Informed Mindfulness training for individuals and groups both virtually and in-person. Julie's long-term career aspirations involve creating large-scale systemic change in organizational culture and improving access to care while traveling the world as much as possible. She believes in creating balance through work, play, and adventure as a way to stay motivated and inspired. In fact, she's currently training for a race in the remote Faroe Islands later this spring. If you're interested in learning more about Julie's work don't hesitate to follow and root for her continued success.
