In the project “So Quiet” Daria Lytvynenko and Jürgen Münzer question the peacefulness of the Austrian landscape - a quiet place, while in Kyiv the sirens run non-stop, 24/7. Here, the war in Ukraine feels distant, even as the actual distance is smaller than one might think.

Into this landscape, a car drives, a siren mounted on its roof, breaking in with disturbing noises and an uneasy story. At times it drowns out the passenger’s voice; at other times, it supports her actions. Both the performer and the car - out of place - vibrate, grow louder.

Which is more dangerous: being loud, or pretending there is no danger here?

Performance: Daria Lytvynenko
Driver: Gabriel Graf
Sound: Sebastian Leopold
Objects: Jürgen Münzer

The project was made possible in the frame of the 33rd Sculpture Symposium "Kunst in der Natur" on the Wachtberg in Gars am Kamp, Austria.

Anna Taradina & Jürgen Münzer
Fountain, 2026
1.20 × 2.20 m
Concrete, brass, copper, stainless steel

The starting point for our project was an abandoned buvet, a spot beneath which the Kudryavets stream flows. While exploring the city space around Kudryavka, we had noticed structures that once had a specific purpose but over time lost their function, remaining simply as part of the urban landscape.
Our sculpture grew out of a concrete element found nearby among structures intended to restrict parking. Once we moved it to the studio, this object gradually transformed into an imaginary fountain, an image of water that is no longer there but continues to define this place.
The work prompts reflection on urban space as an environment of constant change, on Kyiv’s hidden water resources, on neglected buvets, and on objects that have outlived their original purpose. At the same time, it is a gesture of return, in which an element taken from the city acquires new qualities in order to once again become part of it.
For the exhibition, we placed the sculpture in the garden of Kuznia Gallery @kuznia_37 in Kyiv.

The project was made possible in the frame of @spiegelhandresidenzen organised by @paulmaciejowski with support of @nahirna22 , Kunststiftung NRW, Kulturamt Düsseldorf, Culture Moves Europe, the Ministry of Culture and Sciences North-Rhine-Westfalia and Goethe Institut Ukraine.

JÜRGEN MÜNZER (A) & DARIA LYTVYNENKO (UKR)
SO QUIET
I slow my breathing to hear even something. I hear a cricket, a plane, a chainsaw, but all of it far away. So quiet, almost alarming. The alarm begins with a rustle in the bushes. It brings a feeling of danger. Into this landscape drives a car, sirens on its roof. Could it be that the car itself is what carries this feeling of danger? The car, in turn, vibrates with its out-of-place body, grows louder. Tries, at times, to drown out the passenger - at other times, to support her action. Which is more dangerous: being loud, or pretending there is no danger here?

Jürgen Münzer is a visual artist working in the fields of sculpture, installation, and
performance. His practice combines a critical engagement with history and politics with an
openness to the narratives and materials of everyday life. He works with what is
availablefound, collected, or purchased materials shaped by travel, chance encounters,
and daily use. From his expierences in collective and political work, like recently in Ukraine
and in Lebanon, he abstracts to sculpture. Questions of power, economy, and social
justice run through his projects, in which art functions both as an instrument of solidarity
and as a gesture of shared responsibility.
Since 2010, he has been developing international art projects with the artist collective
Conte Potuto, and has collaborated with artists, cultural workers and architects across
spatial, perfor- mative, and artistic practices. Most recently, he was involved in the
production of the interdis- ciplinary performance project Salty Juice of a Ripe Fig at the
Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv, Ukraine. He also contributed to the Quadriennale of Scenography, likewise in Lviv, where ex- cerpts from the work cycle Where Grapes Become Raisins were presented.#kunstindernatur #wachtberg #kunst #jürgenmünzer

13.08 📍Kuznia Gallery, 19:00

Throughout July, as part of the @spiegelhandresidenzen Residency, Jürgen Münzer and I worked on a collaborative project exploring the urban landscape of Kudryavka and its overlooked structures.

It was an intense month. We dragged objects from Kyiv parking lots, became scrappers, climbed into places we probably shouldn’t have, searched for water where it no longer exists, rode scooters around the city, drank kvass, and spent a lot of time trying to connect different pieces of metal to one another.

The result of this collaboration can be seen from today at Kuznia Gallery @kuznia_37
