Thank you to the management of Khalsa Diwan for welcoming us Bright Future Vancouver and giving us the opportunity to speak with the sangat. We’re grateful for your hospitality and for the chance to listen, share ideas, and connect with the community.

The Punjabi community is an essential part of Vancouver’s fabric. As Mayor, I will work alongside South Vancouver’s communities and make sure their voices are heard at City Hall. 🙏

Racism doesn’t stop at the trailhead. Judith Kasiama speaks about the looks that make you question your place, and what changes when you find a community where you can simply be yourself.

In this episode of En tête-à-tête, we meet the founder of @colourthetrails , an organisation bringing Black, Indigenous and people of colour together to hike, ski, climb and learn alongside one another.
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Judith shares a childhood shaped by displacement, the experience of becoming a Canadian citizen, and the sense of home she has found in the forests of British Columbia. Along the way, she reflects on how we build belonging through the people who welcome us, the friendships we form, and the invitations we extend.
Through her work, we discover what making the outdoors more accessible looks like in practice: making a first lesson affordable, finding the confidence to try, falling on a ski slope and laughing with people who are learning too. Moments of collective joy that become their own form of resistance.

We also talk about representation in outdoor media, whose voices shape mountain stories, and the personal cost of pushing for change. How do you keep showing up for your community while protecting your own energy?

A conversation about racism, finding home, and experiencing the mountains without having to leave part of yourself at the trailhead.

1/3 - A world without girls : wouldn’t be a life worth living.

(Below is a message I wrote to the bestie @fadwa_bouziane / @farfadois - and she encouraged me to share. My words will span across 3 mini reels which I made to cheer myself up).

“My rage has fluctuated all day and night the last few days.
The news has taken over my emotions and maybe I shouldn’t give all credit to the news… but my luteal phase and my forever tinge of rage that always lives within me. (Secretly wishing someone would test me…)

I’ve cried reading the rape stories.
I’ve just felt the pain and suffering of all women.
Being fully aware but also numb to the subconscious precautions we take not to get targeted.

I reflect on my own experiences and how I’ve pushed aside my sorrow convincing myself it’s a burden to be buried in these emotions - the best revenge is to move on and show them you weren’t effected. 🫠

A feeling of hopeless sadness… that I’ll have to deal with dissolving later, somehow…
For the women whose stories I’ve read.
For the things we’ve normalized just to feel safe.
For the parts of ourselves we learned to swallow and keep moving.

I love being a woman. ✨

Maybe that’s why it hurts so much when the world forgets how precious we are”
Continued in next reel.

Others I couldn’t tag: @jassypeng @jaymieffriesen @ladychanning @shinichi.bella @caramelcorn04 @emily.molloy.music @alyssakrystle @amberlyn.mt @katezessel @sarahaliciaharv @sam.tuff @indruh @welwaltenaat @anitafacundo @annalengstrand @taylorrmichellee @mayaaharrison @dawnnpark @whatthehecktess @girlnamedjake @getconsciouswith.tk @l_ojo @mhlooooo @official_emeraldgreen999 @kellymascioli @amandalcam @violilynst @ellerobertson11 @kaitlyn_mess @lali.car @therealtatianamendes @fer.diving @kellynne.norris @churi.ca @kseif_17 @janelle.laz
