Had the craziest 3 weeks of my life! So what better time to make my annual instagram post? Started with the most beautiful wedding of @jesshaig and @alaindutton, where I was honoured to be part of a very pretty pastel rainbow 🌈. @cameron_tenardi scrubbed up okay too (but not pastel enough to be cool). 10/10. Then went on a very jam-packed holiday/ conference trip to the US and Canada. Highlights included picturesque landscapes in Vancouver, cute grizzly bears (they tell you they're scary but they are adorable. Did not pat though...). Found some very whimsical (but dodgy) trails that spit you out in someone's back yard. So some accidental trespassing maybe... or not... still unclear on this. Hiked a minimum of 18km each day, so sore legs and a couple of blisties. 9/10. Saw the famous New York city. Interesting scenes and people, but the thing I will remember most is the stench of the city and the chaos of the subway (should come with a warning). Lots of cute squirrels and stench-free air in Central park though. 6.5/10. Saw the beautiful postcard-perfect Niagra Falls, but was possibly more taken with the angelic Canada Geese that definitely wanted pats... 8.5/10. Then Washington DC on the way home, which had the most amazing architecture I have ever seen, but a severe lack of public toilets... needed to pee for most of it. 7.5/10. And of course, presented my research at a very cool developmental neuroscience conference and met some other like-minded researchers. Got one compliment (+ one mockery?) on my Aussie accent. Also felt out-nerded by the other conference-goers. So 8/10. Then, I finished off the week with a jet-lagged TRL Aus champs - loads of fun with a great bunch of people. Was a tad late because the pilot played Mr squiggle with our flight path (had to dodge the aliens), but barely missed a game so not sure why the team is dirty at their pseudocaptain? 8/10. Also managed to do my final thesis presentation, which marks the almost end of my very long journey as a student. 4 y/o Lia would have a tantrum if she knew she would still be at school at 26. P.s. @jesshaig was an absolutely stunning bride, but I personally prefer the pic of us in our TRL gear 😎
