This was my fourth Fringe, and my goal was singular: make enough profit from Pay What You Want ticket pre-sales with Free Fringe to pay my rent for four months so I can focus on my first cruise gig this fall and on touring in the spring.

To pull this off, I did 3-4 spots in compilation shows a day and exit flyered like a maniac. (Exit flyering means I stood at the exit and put a piece of paper with a picture of my face in every audience member's hand.) I've never spent so much time on Cowgate. Spot, flyer, spot, flyer, spot, flyer, 🎶 do my show, 🎶 spot, flyer.

Dear Reader, I did it. I hit the number.

And, of course, the relationships and friendships that blossomed and bloomed in the process are worth double. When you're doing the thing you love, everyone notices. It's contagious.

I love this show, and if I can get up and sing and make people laugh every day for the rest of my life, I'm set. In lieu of that, I guess I'll still do my best to love, and allow myself to be loved, as much as possible *anyway,* wherever I happen to be.

Love and luck and opera and joy and kindness. 💓

Meet the contestants for The Best Friend Zone, Berlin's newest comedy showdown.

Jules Oakes is a British born standup comedian who ran away to Germany to escape divisive politics (lol). Jules has been performing across Europe since 2018, and has opened for a variety of comedians, including Jamie Lee (Ted Lasso, Crashing), Joe Bor, and Nathan Caton.

Jules is quirky, warm, and now officially German. She is many things, but most importantly she is always decidedly herself!

Come see her compete in silly games and ridiculous challenges with the hope of being crowned my new best friend.
