Happy to find this process photo of the black silk organza, its stripes woven with ripe red raw silk, and it brought me right back to the beginning.

All 9 yards belonged to one emergence. That much was undeniably clear to me from the start.

The rest revealed itself moment by moment, through listening. Through presence. Through staying close enough to what was unfolding to hear it.

So I listened.

And I hand-pleated all 9 yards—sewing, setting the entire orchestra of pleats, emancipated from sequencing and repeat. Free-styling with the silk, while holding the anticipation of the design somewhere just ahead of me.

The silk spoke of freedom and flight.

I listened.

There were a few spirited drape versions along the way—little conjurings, possibilities appearing and disappearing—until they made way for the inevitable one.

The one that seemed to shape itself in belonging to Jules, her spirit, and this extraordinary night at the American Guild Awards in Hollywood, where everything she stepped into seemed to meet its moment.

Some fashion moments are designed.

And some are listened into being.

#LaurenceBennett, @jules_berghoff and #JeremyHindle will discuss their education process and how it influenced their design path. They will share with host Bill Brzeski and the audience some of their core design principles, developed over years of practice, alongside new-found skills and knowledge they've acquired on recent projects.

The panel is part of DSW created by the @ucla_tft. DSW features graduate student work from the nation's top universities in production design, as well as costume, lighting, sound, scenic, and projection/media design.

@appletv invited us onto the Warner Bros. lot for a set tour of the hit show The Studio with production designer Julie Berghoff. The fictional Continental Studios was designed to feel like a 1920s Los Angeles landmark, drawing from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mayan Revival architecture with stepped geometric patterns and carved relief throughout the space. With Season 2 currently in production, we were able to see the set before it was dismantled between seasons.

There are so many more details that I’ll share in a later video. Stay tuned for the announcement of Season 2.
