Scenes from this weekend’s live machine knitting activation of “What’s Yours?” by TAC Youth Programs Director, @milo.k.godfrey during @artsgowanus Open Studios.

“When I applied as a summer camp counselor in 2022, I applied under my dead name. When I came in on my first day, I introduced myself as Milo.

Big “ M - I - L -O ” on a nametag.

The classic sticky-back name tag is an opportunity; everyone is wearing one! I have a way to remember everyone’s name! I don’t have to freak out if I forget! Other people can know who I am even if I don’t say it out loud!

Nametags are equalizers in any space. A small way to make a things more accessible, and an invitation for every person to self-identify. Nametags are impermanent, and peel off at the end of the day”

🪡Find the “What’s Yours?” tapestry on view @textileartscenter until October 26th, as part of “Threading the Needle” a TAC Youth Educators exhibition!

Some bits and pieces of my finished thesis titled 'In Earnest (there's always room for one more)' :) I've got way too many thoughts on the matter so I'll just say thanks to all the folks who sat for live portraits and all the folks who endured my endless uncertainty about the work. The work lived and breathed with all of your help 🫂

Thanks to:
Sam and Lauren for keeping me company.
Angie for helping me build the bedframe.
Maira for the lava lamp and 20 pound weight. Jacky for taking care of my stuff.
Rosaly and Julia for letting me photograph them. Pierce for the drawings. Carla for the advice. Sofie for the haircut. And uhhh everyone else for everything else :) 🎯 So many hands in this piece thank you all!

Hopefully I'll have a website and newsletter up and running soon! Hit my line if you have thoughts on this work, I'd love to hear it. See yall soon :]

WE DID IT!!!!!! 🎓🎉🎉
So happy and proud of all my babes and everyone in the Fine Arts department! We've come so far and worked so hard to get to this point. Our days of all-nighters, essays and hours of inhaling paint fumes are over!!!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: @juli4scheiber

In Julia’s textile work there is a great focus on processes that feel meditative. Through working with printed imagery and dyed fibers and fabrics she creates a mindscape of memory. Much of the work explores the sentiment of mending time with weaving. The work is a reflection of self, it explores an ever questioning of life and the meaning of it, navigating the feelings that are felt but not understood, and the feelings that are acknowledged but not felt.
