A Life in Songs

On October 17th, as part of Imsta Festa, That First Song brings A Life in Songs to the stage - an honest, audience-driven conversation about what it really means to build a life in music.

This isn’t a panel where you simply sit and listen. The conversation starts with your questions.

Have a question you’d like us to tackle? Send it in advance to info@thatfirstsong.com — and we’ll also welcome questions from the room.

If you’re a songwriter, artist, producer, or simply somewhere in the middle of figuring out where your music might take you, come curious. Ask what matters.

Please join me, with Producers Ben Pelchat, Eddie Bullen and Duncan Reid, guest artist Adam Bianchi of Stuck on Planet Earth, and moderator Jeff Sammut. We’ll talk songwriting, collaboration, production, publishing, pitching, sync, career realities - and some of the less visible pieces of finding your way through the music business.

Next up: Duncan Reid.

Duncan is one of those people who seems to see a song from every angle. A songwriter, producer, mix engineer and multi-instrumentalist, he started out as an artist himself and has spent more than a decade working across pop, indie, folk and country.

His work has collected millions of streams and landed sync placements with brands and shows including Mastercard, Honda and Grey’s Anatomy. But what is especially interesting is what happens before the finished record as Duncan also coaches artists through the process, from that first voice note to the song that’s ready to go out into the world.

That ability to see the whole song - and help someone else find their way through it - makes Duncan a perfect fit for this conversation.

The track here is Julia D’Angelo’s new single “Thinking it Over” - cowritten, produced snd mixed by Duncan.

📍 October 17 | 2:00–2:45 pm
York University - Accolade East Building
83 York Blvd., North York, ON
