A series of conversations with women who create, move, and shape the world around them.

Julia’s collection first drew me into her world. I loved the way she portrayed women, confident and soft, with a femininity that felt entirely their own. I wanted to know more about the imagination behind those clothes and the person bringing them to life.

A fashion designer and Lichting 2026 participant, Julia explores memory, identity, and the places we carry within us. Her collection, Memoria de Blanca, draws on her Nicaraguan roots, giving shape to a place she could not visit and the fading memory of a woman.

In our conversation, we explore her unexpected beginnings in fashion, the freedom of experimenting, and learning to trust her own way of seeing. From an early experiment with a bin bag to building a collection, a thread of curiosity runs through her story, alongside the courage to let her ideas be seen.

What an honor to see these brilliant minds embracing their own collections and sending a story and an idea all the way from a seed to a runway piece. Each one was amazing to me__ and I am a lucky one to have filmed it. For 20 years Lichting has done this for graduates in Amsterdam and it’s quite a fantastic initiative. It takes a buttload of teamwork and vision. This is a behind the scenes look at the international jury process a few days before the runway show to get to know this year’s designers and begin to think of the winning collection and designer.

On Wednesday, September 2nd, @lichtingnl celebrated its 20th anniversary in the passage of the @rijksmuseum as part of @amsterdamfashionweek

The location made this edition especially festive: alongside the presentation of the ten finalists’ graduation collections, the anniversary was marked with an exhibition of 20 works by 20 talents discovered through Lichting over the past two decades, including Duran Lantink, Sanne Schepers, Denzel Veerkamp, David Laport, Darwin Winklaar and others.
A second exhibition presented images by photographer Peter Stigter, who has shot every edition of Lichting since its founding.

Lichting 2026 finalists: Arthur Wagenaar, Casper Naafs, Domi van Gils, Giulio Zahnd, Jillian-Blair DeRose, Julia Verberne, Milou Schreuder, Stasha Pigkou, Storm Nijhuis and Teun van Doorn.

As is tradition, the evening opened with a solo showcase by last year’s winner. @jinchoe_cyj , presenting under his label Jinchoe, opened Lichting 2026 with his new collection Shadow Stepping.

At the end of the evening, Arthur Wagenaar was announced as the winner of Lichting 2026, taking home a cash prize of €5,000 and the opportunity to show at Amsterdam Fashion Week 2027.
