SILENT ROOTS • Julie Feldman • acrylic and mesh netting on wood panel • At the center of my creative expression is the melancholy of nostalgia and a sense of mystery and discontent. Inspired by personal photographs and found imagery, my paintings dwell on the face and the emotions it reveals. Deliberately blurring the space between figurative and abstract, I like to veil, distort, focus, and manipulate the image so that the original source is not always apparent. Originally this image was part of a diptych in which two faces are shrouded and veiled. The root of their relationship is silent but their bond is indestructible.
