Hi Lovelies. Happy Weekend.

In a world where AI-generated art is unfortunately popping up everywhere, is it just me, or has handmade become the REAL luxury?

There is something so refreshing about seeing real, human-made creations still being what our hearts have always craved. Something made by actual hands, with a little soul, a bit of mess, and a whole lot of love.

Every moment of gut-deep belly laughter, breath-stealing moments in nature, and time spent with people who feel like soul food… THAT is my why.

My reason and joy in creation and play. My desire for deeper inspiration, and to somehow capture those fleeting moments and feelings through different mediums, turning them into something tangible that someone else can hold onto.

And if you’re craving a little human-made treasure of your own, I’ll have a whole collection of one-of-a-kind creations coming next week. Everything from original paintings and trays to a whole bunch of new earrings, all made by these two very human hands. 🎨🤍

I’m curious…… in a world where almost anything can be generated in seconds, do you think handmade art has become more valuable than ever?

San Antonio’s beloved Battle of Flowers Parade: “From Pages to Possibilities” is this Friday. It’s the largest parade in the United States organized by an all women volunteer group — @battleofflowersassociation. Amazingly, this is the 135th parade this association has orchestrated! For ticket and televised parade details, please see www.battleofflowers.org.

Our generous parade sponsors were treated to a “Sneak Peek” of this year’s 10 participating public school floats at one of the BOF warehouse “dens.” Guided by the theme “Where Imagination Blooms,” each float brings to life a celebrated book. I can’t wait to see the creative costumes the student riders of these floats wear. In order to keep the floats a surprise, only snippets of detail are shown here.

Special thanks to our exclusive “Sneak Peek” sponsor, @lafamiliacortez. You know their five amazing San Antonio restaurants — Pico de Gallo, Mi Familia, Mi tierra, Mariachi Bar and La Margarita. You outdid yourselves with exquisite catering, decor and margaritas for all. Thank you Pete and Deborah Cortez for your generosity and hard-working team. Thank you too to the students of Oliver Wendell Holmes High School Mariachi Band for bringing your extraordinary talents and spirited music. I’m grateful for our “Sneak Peek” committee who made this warehouse den come alive — Chair Milby Hartwell, myself, Melany Andersen, Karen Brockwell, Laura Heinrich, Bonnie Muecke, Carla Nelson, Amy Robinson, Julie Speer and Eloise Steed. Special thanks to our BOF Property Officer, Nancy Avellar, for making sure the den was clean and celebration ready. This den has never looked so good! We are grateful for the continued advice and guidance of BOF President Kathleen LeFlore. None of this would be possible without Parade Chair, Helen Meyer, and her extensive team of volunteers who have poured their hearts and souls into Friday’s parade details. Images provided by committee members and Joshua Villagomez. Viva! 🥳🌼
