Want to make chilli crab at home without cleaning a live crab yourself?
-
📍 JUMBO 1987 at JUMBOREE - 26 Tai Seng Street, 01-02, Singapore 534057
-
I wanted to try JUMBO 1987’s live-crab takeaway service and get it for my in-laws. What I didn’t expect was JUMBOREE, this freaking huge indoor food hall in Tai Seng. I thought there was nothing much here, then walked into somewhere super lively and packed, with seafood, local food, drinks and a live band.

📌 Pick your live crab, have it weighed, then pay. They handle the cleaning and gutting, and pack it for you to take home ready to cook. That preparation is the part I find so convenient. You still get to choose the crab yourself, without doing the cleaning at home.

📌 You can add on their signature house-made sauces for your crab. If you’re planning a chilli-crab night for the family, the crab preparation is already handled before you get back to your kitchen. The cooking is still yours to do.

📌 Hungry while waiting? You can eat at JUMBO 1987 and order via QR code. We had laksa, pork, hotplate beancurd and chicken rice. There were so many options, so the visit became a meal as well as a chance to try the crab service.

📌 Around us were restaurants like Tsui Wah, self-service beer and wine, and a live band right in the middle. Honestly, 분위기에 취하다. I got swept up in the atmosphere. I’d gone there thinking about getting crab for my in-laws, and ended up thinking about bringing them here for a celebration.

📌 It gets loud, so hearing each other can be difficult. Keep that in mind if catching up over a quiet meal is the priority. For food, live music and a chance to de-stress, though, I’d come back.

For me, the convenience is being able to pick a live crab and bring it home cleaned and packed. JUMBOREE’s atmosphere was the other reason this trip stood out, and I’m already thinking of coming back with my in-laws.

Save this for your next chilli-crab night at home, or send it to the crab cook in your family.
