Today I watched one of my oldest and best friends @richkrumholz and his brother receive a distinguished alumni award from our old high school. Richie(that's how I will always know him) deserved every ounce of praise he received, but what really resonated with me was his speech, where he spoke about the importance of taking risks and even if things don't work out it's not a loss but a lesson. As @george.mumford would say No Struggle, No Swag! Sitting in my old high school was definitely bitter sweet with old friends watching richie speak (didn't seem like much had changed), after a year on the sidelines and watching everything in my own life crash and burn. I am a big believer in synchronicity and during Richie's speech I saw two posts I had made on april 2nd 2024 when I was flying high. The first post was about "wanting that old thing back", but not needing it, learning from it, growing from it. My dad, Moochie, Overthrow! The 2nd post was from another brother @simplyvega who sent me a message 2 years ago today about a clock my dad had in his old house in nyc. The clock reminded Anthony to get on track, take action, and to move forward in moments he really needed it. For me the clock is a symbol about trusting my timing, that this game ain't linear and there are going to be a ton of twists and turns, but it's about making the next play! With that being said I definitely want that old thing back, but I don't need it. The universe always unfolds just as it is supposed to and sometimes you just have to trust your timing!

You know there's a bigger picture than the camera rolled
'Cause I only got to knowin' how the shits unfolded
Back shots through the rear, got the mack unloaded
Got a reload, like every so-often
Sayin' I got my swagger back
I'm lookin' like bitch, my swagger never left
But we so hard pressed, to be impressed by these new rappers, they actors, and the fact is, you want that old thing back!

The Allen recently hosted a performative lecture by Professor of Dance Ann Cooper Albright and Oberlin College dance students. This event was held in honor of the artist June Leaf, whose work is on view in our exhibition “June Leaf: Shooting from the Heart.”
Thank you to all who attended! If you didn’t have the chance to join us, the exhibition will be on view until May 24.

Now on View / June Leaf: Shooting from the Heart
——
Artwork: June Leaf (American, 1929–2024), “Ascension of Pig Lady,” 1968. Acrylic on canvas with hand-sewn and stuffed figures, wood, and tin. Collection Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Gift of Herbert and Virginia Lust, 1983.12.

Video description: The camera moves slowly across a gallery installation of June Leaf’s work. A soft sculpture of a yellow-haired figure with exaggerated features—often referred to as “Pig Lady”—stands on a platform. She is surrounded by other figures constructed from hand-worked materials with expressive, textured surfaces. A curator speaks in front of the work, gesturing toward the figure as they discuss its form and meaning. The camera shifts between the curator and close-up details of the sculpture, highlighting its dynamic presence within the surrounding installation.
