The Musical Godspell will be produced at Jacksonville University with the direction of Professor Thaddeus Walker. The musical is being put on by the student actors and crew with the guidance of faculty at JU. The students have worked closely with faculty but are producing something still all their own giving ideas to faculty in exchange notes on how to execute the play. The show will be open to the public and free for students on February 27th and 28th.
Join Student producer Saniya Nelson Class of 2028 as she gives you a glimpse into the rehearsal process.

Last night was hard. Last night was beautiful.

As an alumna, I have visited campus several times since graduation but I suspect this will be the last time I ever do. It was the faculty and the community that brought me back.
That community has been defiled in the name of progress and saving money. A casualty of the university’s mismanagement of funds and inability to see that the arts are incredibly essential on campus.

Since @jacksonvilleu ‘s decision to eliminate all music and theater from campus and gut the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts, the students have mourned the loss of their home on campus. They sang with their full hearts and cried as they left the stage for the last time. We cried with them because we lost our home as well.

We all hugged our beloved professors one last time. Who knows where life will take them now, but it won’t be in the space where we shared thousands of memories and countless moments of music and creativity.

This decision sets a horrendous precedent for other institutions and we are determined to make an example of the university by showing that the alumni and the community show up for the arts and give back to institutions that value it.

I spent 5 years on this campus and I no longer feel welcome there.

Thank you to every student who sang with their whole heart last night. @juchoirs you should be proud of the message you shared and the people you loved. @jutheatre shared a Dialogue written by theater faculty member, Deborah Jordan, and the entirety of @jumusicpresents was there screaming in support.

I am sad. I am grateful.
