Thank you 2025 for bringing me my escape. This year has been a roller coaster but the one of the things that has been constant is my love for country dancing. I’m grateful for all the people I met along the way and can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for me. Ofa lahi atu famili 🇺🇸🇹🇴

I want to take a moment to reflect on how Dancing has become one of the best things that has ever happened to me! I want to thank all of my friends and family that have supported me through my journey thus far and all of my mentors and teachers who have helped me get to the point that I am today! All of you guys are so amazing and here is to a new year! Thank you for helping me Dancing into 2026!🕺

Spooky Swing!!
This was my first dance convention, so I had no idea what I was walking into, but this last weekend was such an incredible experience.

This incredibly fun & chaotic weekend included:
-dancing with some of the pros
-competing
-attending workshops
-taking a private lesson from @kristayoung.dance
-late night dance socials
-learning that I am allergic to feather pillows (& getting comments for the rest of the day that I look like I've been crying all day or am high because my eyes are so red)
-almost passing out a few times
-cheering on my friends
-meeting & dancing with so many new people
-hitting my knee on the floor (causing 5 separate new bruises on my knee despite only hitting it one time😂)
-sleep-deprived shenanigans

I can't wait for Spooky Swing next year!!
I definitely have a lot more to learn and a long way to progress, but now I have more motivation to continue progressing and getting better.

@utahdancecircuit Novice J&J Semifinal Round Dance 1 #roadtonumber1
.
Made it to my first semifinal round and my first random partner happened to be @just.dancejulia who I danced with first in this competition. 2nd day back for the competition so this was us getting back into the flow of things. Funny enough, we did the same starter step that we did last time but flipped positions this time.
.
Info Tidbit #7: The “swing” in modern country swing comes from the motion where partners settle backwards from their basic. Moves generally involve 3 or 5 steps and the last step of those motions consists of a step backwards, creating the swing motion.

@utahdancecircuit Novice J&J Preliminary round dance 1 #roadtonumber1

Got introduced to a new starter position by my dance partner @just.dancejulia for this song, and was asked to start like this 😂 Little rough around the edges but more comfortable than my first competition.
.
Info Tidbit #1: J&J, or Jack & Jill, is a dance competition where dance partners get paired up randomly just before the dance and are judged individually based on timing, connection with one’s partner, stylization/musicality, and technique. (In the finals, couples are judged as a unit).
